Nicolas Cage reveals that he will not be reprising his role as Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. Cage portrayed the monochromatic hero in the acclaimed Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which introduced a number of Spider-based heroes from alternate universes. Spider-Man Noir, along with Gwen Stacy, aka Spider-Gwen, Peter B. Parker, aka Spider-Man, Spider-Ham, and Peni Parker, aka SP//dr, help Miles grow into a hero and defeat Wilson Fisk. Spider-Man Noir is a version of Peter Parker from a monochromatic universe set in the 1930s.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant promoting The Old Way, Cage shared some disappointing news about Spider-Man Noir's involvement in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. While Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse will feature a ton of Spider heroes from across the multiverse, including the returns of Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), Peter B. Parker. (Jake Johnson), and Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), Spider-Man Noir is not one of them. Although Cage isn't returning now, he does express an interest in revisiting the character in the future.

I love you as Spider-Man Noir, and I'm hoping that we get to see you in Across the Spider-Verse. What are the chances that we'll see Spider-Man Noir, and you'll be reprising that role one more time?

Nicolas Cage: You'd have to ask Sony. I don't know what's going on with that. No one's spoken to me about that. Ask them. I don't know. I really don't. I wish they would. I love Spider-Man Noir, too. I think that's a great character. Spider-Man's the coolest superhero. And then you combine that with Cagney and Bogart and Edward G. Robinson, come on, it's a great character.

Will Spider-Man Noir Return To The Spider-Verse?

Spider-Man_Noir_burning_a_match_in_Spider-Man_Into_the_Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse primarily focused on Miles Morales' journey to becoming Spider-Man while introducing and touching on the Spider-Verse. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse will delve even further into the Spider-Verse, and while countless Spider-Men will be introduced, it seems Spider-Man Noir is not one of them. Cage's passion for Spider-Man and the classic noir detectives created a unique and compelling hero who was instrumental to Miles' origin as a hero.

Spider-Ham, Peni Parker (aka SP//dr), and Spider-Man Noir were noticeably absent from the Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse trailer, prompting questions about their returns. Cage seems to have answered the question, at least for Spider-Man Noir—although if he isn't involved, it wouldn't be a surprise to learn the other two aren't returning in the sequel either. While Gwen Stacy and Peter B. Parker definitely formed closer bonds with Miles, the other three were just as important to his evolution into Spider-Man.

While Cage's news is disappointing, his passion for the character and interest means he could return in the future. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse has been split into two movies, with Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse set for a 2024 release. Assuming this sequel is as successful as the first, there will likely be more movies and spin-offs. While he won't be a part of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, there are many opportunities for Cage to reprise his role as Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse or other movies after that.
