In Hollywood, studio’s must prepare to strike while the iron is hot on a film to film basis. In a world of “what have you done for me lately?” they don’t come into the game any hotter than director Nicholas Stoller.

THR is reporting that Stoller, a proud alumni of the Judd Apatow posse,  is in negotiations to direct the Universal Studio’s comedy Townies, which will star an unlikely pairing of funnyman Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express) and Zac Efron (New Year’s Eve).

The synopsis for Townies reads as follows:

“Seth Rogen stars as a regular family man who lives near an alpha-male fraternity house and has to contend with a frat member (Zac Efron) whose raucous behavior wreaks havoc on his life.”

In 2008 Nicholas Stoller jumped on the scene with the side splitting comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which starred Jason Segel and the lovely Mila Kunis. Stoller proved to have a keen eye for the comedic genre as he went on to direct the two highly praised films Get Him to the Greek and The Five-Year Engagement - where he would once again team up with Jason Segel. Of course these weren’t the only times we would see the duo unite, as Segel and Stoller would help pen the 2011 version of The Muppets. Stoller is also currently writing the untitled Muppet sequel.

As Efron continues to shed the “good guy” image of his High School Musical days, one has to wonder how he will hold up against the often raunchy Rogen – of course that might be the comedy hook this round. Assuming negotiations hold up and Stoller takes the job, it can’t hurt for Efron to be taking direction from a director who knows a thing or two about comedy.

There is no official release date for Townies but continue to check Screen Rant for further details.
