mengoats New Trailer for The Men Who Stare at Goats

A new trailer has appeared online for the upcoming George Clooney, Ewan McGregor comedy, The Men Who Stare at Goats. And I think you’ll be happy to know that the first trailer wasn’t just a happy accident – the new trailer also makes it look nothing less than fantastic.

Along with Clooney and McGregor, The Men Who Stare at Goats co-stars the likes of Jeff Bridges and Kevin Spacey (that quartet of actors is reason alone to see it). It’s directed by Grant Heslov and is based on the 2004 non-fiction book by Jon Ronson. Just as a reminder, here’s the official synopsis for the film, and then we’ll get to the new trailer:

A reporter (McGregor), trying to lose himself in the romance of war after his marriage fails, gets more than he bargains for when he meets a special forces agent (Clooney) who reveals the existence of a secret, psychic military unit whose goal is to end war as we know it. The founder of the unit has gone missing and the trail leads to another psychic soldier who has distorted the mission to serve his own ends.

Now that you’ve been refreshed, here’s the aforementioned new trailer for The Men Who Stare at Goats, thanks to Cinemablend:

For whatever reason, I still prefer the first trailer, but nonetheless this one does a fantastic of making it look like one of the year’s best films. I especially love the part where Spacey is trying to guess what’s on the card, and when Clooney’s character gets it right instead, Spacey gets mad over the wrong letter being read out icon razz New Trailer for The Men Who Stare at Goats .

2009 is going to end up being quite a year for George Clooney – on top of The Men Who Stare at Goats, he also has Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air (which also looks fantastic) and Fantastic Mr. Fox. I don’t think the latter is going to get him much awards buzz (he’s just lending his voice for it), but the other two give him a double-shot at getting an Oscar nomination when that time rolls around again.

What do you think of the latest trailer for The Men Who Stare at Goats? Do you prefer the first trailer to it? And do you think Clooney has a shot at an Oscar nomination for it, or any of the other films he’s in this year?

In case you happened to miss it, check out Screen Rant guest contributor, Kevin Kelly’s thoughts on the film from Fantastic Fest.

The Men Who Stare at Goats hits theaters on November 6th, 2009.

  6. AWESOME!!! Thanks Knight

cause as enjoyable as i feel this will be to watch, this looks like a story that id like to read in full.

  7. This story has to be based on the real life accounts of Ingo Swan and the remote viewers the military/cia funded back in the 70′s.

  8. LOVED it! The Silence of the Goats…Classic!

  9. Great cast, love Clooney, Spacey is always great and Bridges too ( and he should be a bigger star if the idiots who run the studios had any brains)- original idea too…
    Yes,I will see it!

  10. This is one I~m looking forward to seeing, lots of great actors there including McGregor (thought I`d get one in for a fellow scot)

  11. I saw an advertisement for this film and it appears that they are killing these goats with their minds or at least knocking them out, not to mention that these goat’s freedom is strictly curtailed by being held in that room and being stared at. Why do people consider this amusing. Just another example of how demented people are on a natural basis.

  12. Jennifer Galick, at least they’re not using the goats for alien hybrid development or sending them through teleportation devices.

You have to look at the “it could be worse?” angle on this one…

  13. @790 – I am in full support of Goat Teleportation, as would it seem are Google!
