green lantern first flight dvd cover New Trailer & Release Date For Green Lantern: First Flight

There’s a brand new trailer and a new release date for DC Universe’s next animated feature, Green Lantern: First Flight. The trailer looks pretty epic, and if anything, should serve as a good blueprint for the upcoming live-action Green Lantern movie, which is still in the casting stages.

Check out the trailer for yourself:

Not bad, right?

Green Lantern: First Flight is the re-imagined origin story of Silver Age Green Lantern, Hal Jordan. The film will mainly be set in space, and will feature all sorts of aliens and intergalactic battles and all kinds of crazy power-ring creations (as you can see from the trailer).

First Flight is being helmed by DC Universe’s Lauren Montgomery, the same brilliant little lady behind DC Universe’s other great features, Superman: Doomsday and Wonder Woman. Lending their voices to the film will be Christopher Meloni (Law And Order: SVU) as Hal Jordan; Victor Garber (ALIAS) as Hal Jordan’s nemesis, Sinestro; Michael Madsen as Hal Jordan’s alien mentor, Kilowog; and the lovely Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica) as Green Lantern Corps member, Boodikka. Bruce Timm will be producing the film.

Now, about that earlier release date.

Fans will be able to pick it up Green Lantern: First Flight on July 21, 2009–one whole week earlier than the original July 28 release date. The film will also be rated PG-13, which spells, “Animated action adults can enjoy.”

What do you think of the new trailer and release date for Green Lantern: First Flight? Is this a film you’ll be checking out, or does Green Lantern still not rank on your superhero radar?

  1. Looks great. I love the whole animated features both DC and Marvel are doing. I am also hoping another Hellboy animated gets made.

  2. that looks good i think its good WB is geting other charters
off the grund and im looking forward to hearing more Green Lantern news.

  3. I’ve never actually heard anyone refer to a cartoon as epic, lol. Looks like a cartoon to me.

  4. It looks absolutely brilliant. Wonder Woman was fantastic and I didn’t even care for that character, Green Lantern on the other hand…well lets just say im interested in this.

  5. Just loving it.

BTW Ink there’s already two Hellboy animated movies on DVD

  6. I don’t know… I wanted to think it was awesome but the video didn’t live up to the epic music that accompanied it.

  7. I think this looks pretty sweet. Now the big question is whether or not DC can replicate the success of Batman to the other heros in their arsenal when it comes to the big screen. Let’s hope GL doesn’t start of like the new Superman franchise did.

  8. @Vic

IDK… That trailer is crazier than the trailers for Superman: Doomsday and Wonder Woman ever were. And those films turned out pretty well. At this point the team of Lauren Montgomery and Bruce Timm get my vote on whatever they choose to do.

  9. I guess I cant get into cartoons.

  10. Sinestro OwnZ !
cant wait to see those 2 Fight.
i Loved the Sinestro Corps. Comic series

  11. The problem with these animated origin stories is they pack in so much in 90 mintues (max). GL would be better as a 2 or 3 movie set.

The industry for direct to DVD doesn’t work that way I’m sure but it would be nice.
