After news about James Gunn's new movie, The Suicide Squad, flooded news outlets, DC made sure to announce their own Suicide Squad comic book relaunch as well, debuting this coming December. From the information released so far, writer Tom Taylor has set fans up to expect a series of absolute carnage, telling his Twitter followers not to get attached to any of the new team's members.

From what we know so far, Harley Quinn and Deadshot are both returning to lead the team of new members, but a new leader will be replacing Amanda Waller as the head of Task Force X (who, believe it or not, will care even LESS about the lives of the squad's members). As a result, fans can expect even more risk and violence than the squad has seen in the past. Taylor may be prepared to torment fans (most recently seen in his DCeased zombie apocalypse), but it's a stark reminder that every member, no matter how popular, is accepting a suicide mission. And if that makes readers nervous, that is exactly what Taylor is after.

Since the series comes from Taylor and artist Bruno Redondo--the duo that brought the Injustice series to life--the relaunch is sure to give readers something new. In the December DC Comics solicitations, it was announced that the plot for Suicide Squad #1 would revolve around the team trying the neutralize a new group of international super-terrorists called the Revolutionaries. And now the follow-up issue Suicide Squad #2 is promising "absolute carnage" in the aftermath of the first issue. Yikes.

The announcement further promises that an entire new team is to be assembled in issue #2 before the team even has time to mourn the loss of their recently deceased and very short-term teammates. This begs readers to question who won't survive the first issue and who will be brought in to replace them. For now, all they can do is wait for the series to debut. But given the history of Taylor and Redondo, it's certain that even fan-favorites are in grave danger. Here's what we know for certain so far:

  • SUICIDE SQUAD #2
  • Release Date: January 29, 2020
  • written by TOM TAYLOR
  • art and cover by BRUNO REDONDO
  • card stock variant cover by RYAN BENJAMIN
  • After the absolute carnage of Suicide Squad #1, a new Task Force X has been assembled—even before the bodies of teammates and friends have had a chance to cool! What’s left standing may be the most capable and uncompromising Suicide Squad ever brought together. But it’s also the most divided. Forced to fulfill the agenda of a cruel new taskmaster, this Squad might survive their next mission, but they may not survive each other.
