Yeah ah…gonna skip this one and wait for the next real Star Trek movie if they ever decide to do something original again. Star Trek’s future lies in it’s future not in a rehashing of stories and characters already done. Paramount seems determined to kill the franchise once and for all.

Ya I read something about that too. That’s pretty cool how it ties into Roman History and it explains the names and designs the romulans too…and the fact they are called ROMULANS..ROMANS..ROMULUS it all makes sense now!

I don’t know how true this is but I found this on http://stexpanded.wikia.com/wiki/Nero:

Nero was a Roman emperor on Earth from 54 to 68 CE.

According to Star Trek: Unity continuity, although appearing human, Nero was in fact a Neronian leader who decided to invade Earth for his own purposes. Instead of using military might, Nero, fascinated by Earth’s Roman culture, decided to make himself Rome’s leader. He left Earth in 68 CE, however, when he beamed away to his ship after an uprising and made it appear that he had killed himself with a knife.

Nero retreated back to his empire and entered frozen animation to wait for the Neronian armies to build up to a point where he could invade Earth as he had always wanted to. He was killed in mid 2383 when the USS Hawk-A destroyed his mothership.

Very little is known of Nero’s personality, although he seems to have been a great follower of the arts, including music.

So this could be the Nero of Roman history, like Flint was the Mozart and Brahms of history. It looks obvious from the picture that Nero is alien, so I don’t know if this is true.

I don’t include “The Naked Now” even though, technically, it did have time travel in it but it was small.

Checked IMDb, haven’t kept up much with this since I’m not a dangerously huge Trekkie– but can someone explain why there are so many cast members with the last name Kirk?

Don’t lump TOS in with the other series. How many times did TOS use time travel? 3 in the series I think and once in the movies.

Sure there have been many great episodes that did not use time travel. How many of the episodes that used time travel are bad?

None for TOS. And with a prequel/reboot what better reason to use time travel.

After this movie, I do agree that it is time – aha! – to put the use of time travel to rest.

Sorry, that analogy doesn’t hold up. Time travel is NOT the core of the Star Trek series, where a murder is the core of a murder mystery. Star Trek’s core theme was seeking out new life and new civilizations, not traveling through time, traveling among the stars. Thus the name “Star Trek.”

And many of the best Trek episodes were also done without Time Travel. In fact, most of my favorites never even came close to using time travel.

As for my over-used comment: 51 episodes over 28 television seasons worth of shows. That’s nearly 2 times per season, plus 3 movies, not counting this new one. For a series built on the idea of space exploration, that seems a bit excessive to me. I’d really like to see them try something new, for a change.

But, that’s just me.

And I don’t know why people rag on time travel all the time, particularly in light of how many of the best like Trek episodes used it.

Over-used? Pffft! That’s like saying that having murder in a murder mystery is over used.

The Star Trek Voyager episode, Shatterd is a great time-travel episode.
Also DS9’s “Little Green Men” is one of my favorites.
