Netflix’s corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has new seasons of DaredevilJessica Jones, and Luke Cage reportedly set for 2018. So far, 2017 has already seen the release of Iron Fist, but it will also include The Defenders and The Punisher. It’s a packed schedule for the streaming service that’s pushed back the continuing adventures of the original trio, but all of that is now set to change.

Season 2 of Jessica Jones is already in production and has widely been assumed to hit in 2018. Luke Cage is in a similar position as filming is set to begin later this yearDaredevil, on the other hand, is waiting for showrunner Marco Ramirez to finish The Defenders, but is also set to film at some point this year.

EW recently compiled a list of every television show that Marvel currently has in production, and as a surprise to many fans of the gritty Netflix shows, the publication added that the big three series would get new seasons next year. There is no official confirmation from Marvel or Netflix at this point, but if the streaming service continues with its new schedule of releasing three Marvel shows a year, this schedule would certainly fit the bill.

Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil in The Defenders from Marvel and Netflix 2 New Seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, & Luke Cage Set For 2018

Even though this may not be the most surprising information for Jessica Jones or Luke Cage given their production schedules, it is good to know that a third season of Daredevil is not too far off. The shows may also premiere in this order as well with possible release windows putting Jessica Jones out in the spring, Luke Cage in late summer, and Daredevil in the fall/winter.

What will be interesting moving forward is seeing whether or not the Netflix Marvel universe continues at this pace. So far, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is the only character to get a spinoff, and unless Defenders becomes a bi-yearly event, the studio will need additional properties to bring to the screen. Heroes for Hire has long been requested by fans, but that would only increase the workloads of Mike Colter, Finn Jones, and Simone Missick (Misty Knight). Instead, fans may see a familiar scenario play out where one of the 2018 seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, or Luke Cage introduces a new character for a potential spinoff. We’ll all just have to wait and see.

The Defenders arrives on August 18, 2017, with The Punisher coming later this year. Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, Jessica Jones season 1, Luke Cage season 1, and Iron Fist season 1 are now available on Netflix. The next seasons of Jessica JonesLuke Cage, and Daredevil will arrive in 2018.
