Summer is just around the corner for many fans of Pokémon GO, so avid players may be wondering what new Pokémon will become available in the coming warmer months. Pokémon GO kicked off 2021 with a number of events, introducing many new species to the mobile game, and it looks like the new additions won't be slowing down any time soon.

Currently, Pokémon GO has a wide selection of available Pokémon from the eight different Pokémon regions. While later regions like Kalos, Alola, and Galar only have a limited number of species available in the game, it's possible these areas could become a priority as older regions run out of unused creatures for the Pokédex. The region with the fewest options available at the moment is Alola. There are a few Alolan-form Pokémon players can capture, but the Alola region has yet to feature prominently in any Pokémon GO event.

One of the big mechanics keeping Pokémon GO gameplay interesting is Shiny hunting. Finding these alternate colorations of favorite Pokémon can make a day of grinding at Pokéstops worthwhile for dedicated players. 2021 has seen the release of several Shiny variant Pokémon, including Shinies of Snivy, Buizel, Mega Ampharos, Miltank, Mega Gyarados, Spinda, and more.

Shiny Smeargle Is The Next New Addition To Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO's Shiny Smeargle is the next to join the roster, available to catch between April 29 and May 2. While some Shiny Pokémon are available to catch all year long, this won't be the case for Smeargle; after the event is over, it will be removed from the game until it features in another Pokémon GO event sometime in the future. This means players will only have four days to find and catch this Shiny Pokémon if they are hoping to add it to their Pokémon GO collections.

Beyond Smeargle, developer Niantic hasn't yet announced which new Pokémon might be released in May or June. It's likely more news will come in the near future, along with updates on potential upcoming summer events. Hopefully, these updates will include more Mega Evolution options, as well as more Legendary Raids to help freshen things up for the warmer weather. To keep up to speed, Pokémon GO fans will want to check for updates regularly in order to catch any new Pokémon species that become available.
