New Promo Image From Dragonball Movie

Here’s a new promo image from the live-action Dragonball movie. The new picture features Goku (Justin Chatwin) looking real chummy with best friend Bulma (Emmy Rossum). It’s an all right picture, but the hairstyles and that “ironic” t-shirt Chatwin is wearing worry me. It makes it look like the film is trying too hard to imitate the series’ oscillation between kick-ass action, EXTREMELY cheesy humor, and long, still frames of characters posing, growling and looking like they might eventually do something cool. Not a big draw for the general public.

Take a look at this new Dragonball image for yourself and tell me if you don’t get that same vibe.

  1. Well from what I’ve been reading around the net, like I figured Goku isn’t in school very long and their’s plenty of Bulma doing capsule bike action. The famed Martial arts tournament is in there, so I would expect a certain amount of tedium. Hopefully, they will be able to turn that into suspense. Most fans are upset, because Krillin is either not on board or being kept hidden. Their’s a lot of opportunity to turn this into a great popcorn flick, but it’ll never be indistinguishable from something Marvel or DC puts out. I’m looking for cult status for it, because those who bought into it as a Manga deserve it and those that have no clue can go see something else!

  2. I’m not sure I get the same vibe. The vibe I get is a poster that shows two of the characters. I didn’t read anymore into it than that. I agree with “old man” that it has a chance to be a lot of fun. I love the Dragonball franchise so I am holding my breath (but not too hard.)

  3. ya definately not appealing to gen. public (and me). I mean, in addition to what you said, its a flying orange ball with yellow stars on it…lol

  4. This is a new picture? I remember seeing this poster months ago.

  5. I’m getting a wicked “Dragon Wars” vibe off of this.

  6. If it’s done right it will be entertaining, but no matter what…it will never be like a Marvel Studios production, ie. IronMan…

Oh well, guess the DBZ fans will just have to enjoy whatever comes into theaters.

  7. looks good

  8. Honestly this looks like “flop” is written all over it. Why is Goku and bulma white? Clearly they are asian, this is going be an upset just like the 1st street fighter movie, Mortal Kombat and the whole X-Men franchise. I bet the fights will be terrible, speical effects limited. Their just lookin to make money off the name, because this is a long awaited film by die hard dragonball z fans like myself.

  9. bulma is suppose to have blue hair….clearly a fake picture…

  10. Man I wish I could have consulted for these guys..

Coal black hair can look blue under certain circumstances. That’s what they should have went for. I think many western audiences would have been happy with that. It’s probably the look that’s being aimed at by dying the hair blue. Since the actor playing Bulma has brown hair they just went with the cartoon blue streak, as you might notice.

It’s a compromise attempt to be real and be in character. This gal must have been able to pull out the right attitude and emotions that make Bulma a recognizable character, because while she’s cute and all, nothing about her look reminds you of the character. I have to give them credit they are trying!

How many of You have went out and scrounged up the millions it takes to put this on screen??

If you think the suspension of disbelief is work as an audience how do think the cast feels? Just look at some of the Otaku crap on You Tube and give these people the benefit of doubt, none of you have seen even 5 seconds of “Finished footage!” Instead of endless comparing beat-down, why not write what you think an actor should be able to portray to pull the characters off. THAT’S what’s important. Genuine characterization and emotion will never be seen as wrong. While costume design a characters look or story will change from iteration to iteration.

  11. i really don’t know what to say i mean just by looking at the pictures i can see this is going to be a very very very heart breaking movie for the real dbz fans like my self i am the type of fan that can watch the same saga and still be excited to see it. i just really just hope they get it together before they put in the the theaters

  12. “like my self i am the type of fan that can watch the same saga and still be excited to see it.”

That’s great donald, so why not just put one of those many DVDs you have into your player and forget about “Dragon Ball” the movie, since it’s obvious so many righteous fans can’t be wrong! I know I’ve done the same thing with other movies. You just have to let it go. Nothing you say here, will make any difference on how it will play. As Naruto would say, in the english version anyway, “Believe It!”

  13. i have been watching DB + DBZ ever since my uncle showed me it when i was 5 (im 15) and man i loved it. after i saw the pics with pretty much every character lookin nothin like who there supposed to be (except yamcha) i still decided to give this movie a chance but when i heard theres going to be bullies and high school and stuff man i realized this isnt DB they messed up so much goku met bulma when he was a lil boy not a teen and roshi isnt going to be the funny old pervert hes too serious as well as goku hes too serious too and who the hell is mai anyways?

  14. Is this a test?? Who is Mai? You really don’t know? :(
You really have nothing to fear from the live action movie. If what you say is true, you still have some episodes of the anime to go thru.

Why not wait and see the live action movie, then get the episodes you’ve missed and compare the performances. Come back here, and tell us how they compare and what was right/wrong with the performance.

I’ve heard the story moves like gangbusters, so don’t expect Goku to spend much time in school.

A number of compromises were made to make it more family friendly, word is Roshi’s character is more like “Miyagi” in “Karate Kid.” There’s still blood and injuries and such, so it’s still a serious movie. Krillin may even get a little wedge of screen time..

  15. hm…. It looks cool.. I wonder how they are going to do super sayain and if they will go to ssj3?..

  16. Hi Poe; Well, you might have to wait at least 8 years for that to happen. That is, if enough box office is made to continue making “DB” movies.
