A brand-new casting call for New Mutants indicates the movie may be seeking a motion-capture actor to tackle the role of Warlock. Fox has had a shaky time adapting their various Marvel properties to the big screen, but the last couple of years have seen things turn around. Both last year's Deadpool and this year's Logan have been massive hits, with critics and audiences. That success has emboldened Fox, with the studio putting forward plans for their most ambitious film slate to date.

Next year will not only see Deadpool 2 hit theaters, but the new X-Men franchise will continue when it tackles Dark Phoenix. Before either of those films hits, however, Josh Boone's teen horror film New Mutants will enter theaters with a diverse cast of young heroes facing a terrifying threat. The project is all set to start shooting next month in Boston, which has meant the cast finally solidifying. So far, Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy have joined as Wolfsbane and Magic, respectively. Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton has also coming aboard as Cannonball, with 13 Reasons Why actor Henry Zaga joining as Sunspot.

A new casting report discovered by Omega Underground hints at another classic character potentially joining New Mutants, with the description seeming to point towards Warlock.

SKINNY MAN – Male, 20’s – 60’s; Caucasian, must be over 6’9″, extremely tall and skinny. We are looking for someone who is very good with movement. This is a featured principal role with no dialogue.

Warlock of Marvel's X-Men

Debuting in 1984's New Mutants #18, Warlock is one of the earliest members of the group. While not a mutant in the strictest terms, his outcast status among his people led to him being granted a place on the team. Hailing from the alien race known as the Technarchy, Warlock is a techno-organic being capable of shifting his body into various configurations and transforming others into a being like himself. He also has a fairly unhinged personality, serving as the comic relief for the series. The casting call seems to fit the character to a tee, indicating that a mo-cap actor will tackle the body while a more well-known name will probably handle the voice.

Warlock isn't the only new addition to the cast, either. We recently learned that newcomer Blu Hunt was cast as original member Mirage in the film. Meanwhile, a report from earlier today seems to indicate that founding New Mutant Karma may also be in the film. Add in Rosario Dawson as Dr. Cecelia Reyes and the potential for Demon Bear as the villain, and the new film will be just as packed with mutants as your standard X-Men film.

With shooting beginning next month, expect some more casting and story announcements to arrive any day now. There's even a chance we'll get a short teaser soon, though it likely won't feature any footage. Still, the long-simmering project is much closer to seeing the light of day, which is sure to make New Mutants fans happy.
