The second official trailer for the upcoming violent comic-book adaptation Kick-Ass has just surfaced online over at Yahoo and we have it here for your viewing pleasure!

Based on the acclaimed Mark Millar comic, Kick-Ass is about a teenager who one day decides to dress up in a costume, give himself a name (the titular Kick-Ass) and proceeds to try and beat the crap out of the bad guys in town (often to no avail). His actions have consequences in the form of others wanting to be just like him, and before you can say “It’s a bird! It’s a plane!” there are others dressing up as superheroes, including Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz), Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) and Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage). The films comes to us courtesy of Matthew Vaughn, who gave us Stardust and the excellent Layer Cake. It’s co-written by Vaughn and Jane Goldman (who penned Stardust together).

This newest trailer is official and therefore not red band like the Hit-Girl focused one but it’s probably my favorite trailer so far in terms of striking an equal balance between making it accessible and appealing to a wider audience not familiar with the source material, but still giving us a true feel for the explicitness we’re sure to be in store for. Check out the trailer below, courtesy of Yahoo:

I’m glad we’ve now been given a proper look at the villain of the film, Frank D’Amico, being played by the wonderful Mark Strong (who can be seen also as the villain in the recent Sherlock Holmes). It continues to look like, well, a kick-ass movie (I couldn’t resist) that I have a feeling will be a hit with even general audiences. I’m glad the film is R-rated to be in keeping with the source material, which I hear is pretty out there in terms of violence and swearing. I don’t really need any more convincing to see this one, but a new trailer is always a bonus.

Thoughts on the latest trailer for Kick-Ass? At what number does it rank on your most anticipated list? It came in at number 2 on Screen Rant‘s list of the most anticipated movies of 2010, just behind Iron Man 2.

Kick-Ass hits theaters on April 16th.
