Surely you guys have all seen the Iron Man 2 theatrical trailer by now – and surely you remember that one of the most kick-ass parts of that trailer is the moment when we see Mickey Rourke in his crude Whiplash armor for the first time, ambushing an armorless Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) while he’s indulging in a Formula 1 race.
Well, Shellhead fanatics who have been keeping track of every bit of our Iron Man 2 news should already know that Whiplash ambush sequence is set in Monaco, France. We previously saw some behind-the-scenes footage of the Monaco sequence and now, courtesy of MSN France, we have even more!
Oh, and did I mention that this new footage also includes a never-before-seen scene from the finished film?
That’s right, if you want to see Tony Stark sit down face-to-face with Rourke’s character, Ivan Vanko, then you’ll need to watch this featurette right now!
How badass is that? This sequel is looking like it will at least match the epic stature of the first installment – and at best it’s going to blow past the first film like an armored suit going Mach-1! F
For those of you possibly wondering why actors like Rourke and Downey are being tapped by director Jon Favreau to play these roles: that scene they teased us with at the end of the video should tell you why.
Am I wrong in saying that seeing Downey and Rourke – two beloved Hollywood bad boys who hit bottom and then found redemption – sitting down for a scene of intense conversation is much like seeing De Niro and Pacino sit down for that diner scene in Heat? Who would’ve ever thought it would be happening in a superhero movie?
BONUS: Got another new Iron Man 2 pic for you: this one of the lovely Scarlett Johansson. Enjoy ;-) :
Iron Man 2 hits theaters on May 7, 2010.
