I agree totally with Lord Garth (commented on 18/7/09). What a ghastly trailer- showing all the type of stuff that is reason I & many of my frieds hardly EVER have been to the cinema for YEARS. Give me the old Jeremy Brett (actor) Holmes serials anyday, subtle and much more portraying Conan Doyles beautiful characterisations, atmospheric and slow suspense plots. This is just yet another Hollywoody type typical modern in your face blitz the senses special effects garbage, much too much sex, violence & general tacky vulgarity etc ie all the constituents of the usual recipe thrown in; over the top fast action for low attention spans. Mostly for people who haven’t READ or would never WANT to read Conan Doyle- exactly as you say Lord Garth. But it looks like we’re in a MINORITY. What a indictment of our modern society’s moral & intellectual state.

This looks interesting enough to see, but it’s one of those movies that I might just have to pretend that the movie isn’t based off of something I like to be good.

When I see this in theaters, I will pretend the movie is named “Sure-Lock Homes” and that it is a movie that has no attempted resemblance to the Doyle classics.

I don’t get the excitment for Avatar it just doesn’t sound good to me. It’s a rather pathetic premise and isn’t exactly based on anything great.

No worries. I don’t like it when people call drinking or drug use a “disease”. And I can’t stand to be around drunks of drug users so I’m sensitive to it too. It pisses me off. Hopefully, RDJ will stay clean but if he doesn’t I won’t have any sympathy either.

Sorry prtfvr I misunderstood I thought you were saying “poor RDJ was on drugs” and it’s a bit of a sore subject with me I have no sympathy for drug addicts. I am also glad that RDJ is turning his life around and hope he stays that way. However, if he fails I will not feel bad for him.

I never said that using drugs wasn’t RDJ’s fault. Just that I was glad that he was able to start over again. I grew up with a drug addict who never quit. He died of a heroin over dose a month before his 40th birthday. I would have loved for him to stop using drugs and see the real person beneath it all but I never did.

I don’t think it’s unfair to be glad when someone (RDJ in this case) seems to be turning his life around. I’m happy for him and I want him to stay clean and successful. But that doesn’t mean I condone drug or alcohol abuse. I grew up in the same house and never had either problem. I just like a success story. Of course, we won’t know how successful it was until the end but until then, I’m ready to give RDJ the benefit of the doubt.

I think it’s a slightly better trailer. I’m not saying that the first one was bad I just think this one is much better. I’ve been looking forward to this movie since I saw the first trailer. It looks like it’s going to be a great movie!!!!

not sure if this has been brought up but the nit picker i am saw an editing goof in between the 2 trailers at 1:59 mark of the first (noninternational) trailer when the two figures are being blasted back from the explosion, that in this trailer there is only 1 person getting blasted back(im guessing Holmes)…. Just thought id shoot that bullet in the air and see where it came down.

Did you folks notice that too?

Overall this will be on my watch list for whenever it came out

Prtfvr You make it sound like RDJ had it hard and couldn’t help it. I like the guy, but all of his problems are his own fault he made a lot of stupid decisions and suffered because of them. I hope he is smart enough to stay clean. If he’s not than I hope his career tanks again.

Not how I envision Sherlock Holmes but it looks great as an entertaining movie. Can’t wait to see it.

Robert Downy Jr. does a better English accent than what he seems to have in this movie. I’m not sure if he’s even trying to have an English accent. Either way though, I’ll be there.

I’m just glad that RDJ has been able to reboot his career after all of the things he’s been through in his life. Hopefully he’ll be able to stay clean for the rest of it.

Not at all what I expected, but I’m certainly loving it. If Ritchie had went with a more traditional Holmes — how many would stand in line to see it? Holmes is the most famous detective of all time. There have been numerous movies, tv shows, plays and books written about him. Ritchie is giving us something new and familiar at the same time. I sense another hit for Robert Downey Jr.

You don’t need to make Sherlock Holmes loud and stupid with cut scene, cliched action sequences and modern jargon to make an Icon relevant. I hope all the over the top crap in the trailer is all that their is. I want to like this but absolutley nothing I have seen so far except Jude Law suprisingly as Watson, makes me think i am seeing a Sherlockian adventure.

Updating a property for modern viewing tastes means updating for increasingly classless, less intelligent, short attention span, UNREAD, morons.
We shall see.
