Last week Screen Rant reported on the first footage from Terry Gilliam’s upcoming fantasy film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which sees the late Heath Ledger in his last ever film role (he sadly never got to complete it, though). It wasn’t much (only about 16 seconds or so) but today Screen Rant has a batch of new images to give you more of a look at the movie.
Doctor Parnassus is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival today, so expect to hear the “thumbs up/thumbs down” verdict from the people who are lucky enough to be there and get in to see it. For those less fortunate, this latest set of images will have to do for now:

Outside of the curiosity of seeing Ledger’s last movie before his untimely death (c’mon, you know it’s a factor…), I am really excited for this movie because it’s directed by Terry Gilliam. He’s one of my favorite directors because of his originality and talent for making the strangest of things seem like the most interesting.
He also has a knack for getting some killers casts for his movies: With Twelve Monkeys it was Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt and Madeleine Stowe; with The Fisher King it was Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges; with Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas it was Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro… on and on.
With Doctor Parnassus he has Ledger, Christopher Plummer, Verne Troyer, Andrew Garfield and Tom Waits – an eclectic bunch, if I ever saw one. The cast, combined with Gilliam’s artistically uniquely vision, I’m sure will make this one of the highlight’s of 2009.
What do you make of these latest images for Doctor Parnassus? Are you looking forward to this movie?
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is presumed to be released sometime this year, but no official release date has been set as of yet.
