A bunch of new images have recently appeared online for what are sure to be some anticipated movies simply as a result of the people involved, not necessarily how good the movies look themselves. They are the new Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) comic book adaptation Scott Pilgrim vs. The World; the new comedy Cop Out directed by Kevin Smith (Clerks); MacGruber, the movie based on the Saturday Night Live sketch; and Your Highness, an historical comedy from the director of Pineapple Express and starring the likes of Danny McBride, James Franco and Zooey Deschanel.

The image above is actually the first of two official images released for Edgar Wright’s fantasy-comedy Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, which stars Michael Cera as the titular character who must defeat his new girlfriend’s seven evil ex-boyfriends in order to win her heart. Although as anyone who has read the original comic series will probably tell you, it’s not as simple as that.

One of the photos released is just of the main cast lined up which can be seen as the above header, but the other one is pretty damn sweet indeed: it shows Cera wielding some sort of red flaming sword whilst his girlfriend and one of the evil ex-boyfriends (Jason Schwartzman) watch from atop a pyramid in some sort of futuristic nightclub. Sound strange? Take a look for yourself (click for bigger versions):

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World stars Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin and Jason Schwartzman. It hasn’t got an official release date as of yet but one in 2010 is expected.

The next new image is from Kevin Smith’s Cop Out (originally called A Couple of Dicks before the title got changed for obvious reasons). Cop Out is a comedy starring Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as a couple of cops whose adventures include rescuing a woman, dealing with gangsters and finding a stolen baseball card. It marks the first time Smith has directed a film that he hasn’t had a hand in writing, so it should be interesting to see both how he performs as the director working off of someone else’s script, as well as how he handles a more action-orientated caper (most of his movies just consist of people hanging around talking).

Check out the new image below, which shows Willis sitting next to Morgan who is dressed up in a cell phone costume (we already saw an image last summer of him in the outfit). Take a look (click for bigger version):

Alongside Willis and Morgan, Cop Out co-stars Adam Brody, Kevin Pollak, Guillermo Diaz and Sean William Scott. It is set to hit theaters on February 26th this year.

Next up we have the first official images from MacGruber, the comedy based on the Saturday Night Live sketch that parodies the TV show MacGyver. It stars Will Forte (the actor from the SNL sketch) as a bumbling secret agent whose lack of skill and abundance of personal problems hinders him and everyone around him.

I’m not familiar with the SNL sketch (we don’t really have the show over here in the UK) so I’m not sure what to make of this one. Any fans out there that can tell me I’m missing out on something spectacular? Anyway, check out the images below (click for bigger versions):

MacGruber co-stars Kristin Wiig, Val Kilmer, Ryan Phillippe, Bill Hader and Maya Rudolph. It hits theaters on April 16th this year.

Finally we have the first official image that’s been released for Your Highness, a historical comedy starring James Franco and Danny McBride (re-teaming after the hilarious Pineapple Express) amongst others. It’s about an arrogant, lazy prince (presumably being played by McBride) and his more heroic brother (presumably that’s Franco) who must complete a quest in order to save their father’s kingdom.

I’ll need to wait for more on this one to truly know what to make of it, but it’s from a lot of the same people who brought us Pineapple Express which I laughed my butt off at. Check out the first image below (click for bigger version):

Along with McBride and Franco, Your Highness co-stars Zooey Deschanel, Natalie Portman, Justin Theroux and Toby Jones. Expect to see this one in theaters on October 1st this year.

I’m pretty sure that’s enough new movie images to quench your thirst for the time being but which is your favorite? Mine would have to be that sweet Scott Pilgrim one of Cera with that flaming sword. How about you?
