The latest film from Crank writer/directors Mark Nevaldine and Brian Taylor is Gamer (previously titled both Game and Citizen Game), a film about the popular world of multiplayer online gaming – only in this case the players controlling real live human beings. It’s a great concept that looks to have been pushed to the max, if the first trailer for Gamer is any indication (although some would say it veers to close to Death Race, and in some ways I agree).

Today we have a batch of new images from Gamer, most of which are pretty strange, indeed. For a film that seems so much about hardcore violence and gunplay, at least three of these photos seem to indicate a more colorful, less bleak world than what we’ve seen from the awesome interactive poster and the aforementioned trailer.

Apparently, most of the pictures show part of the world of Gamer called Society, which is basically the equivalent of what we know as The Sims. It’s pretty inevitable that in a film called Gamer they would have a Sim Society, isn’t it? Here are some of the new pics from Gamer:

Yes, that’s the Alison Lohman, the actress from Drag Me To Hell above…

Since Gamer comes to us from the guys who brought us the two Crank movies, I’m sure we can expect something pretty over-the-top. The movie has a bitchin’ cast headlined by Gerard Butler (back in the ass-kicking mode of 300), and also featuring Amber Valetta, Michael C. Hall (who’s fantastic on Dexter), Alison Lohman, Milo Ventimiglia (Peter from Heroes), Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges (okay, we can overlook him…), Kyra Sedgwick, John Leguizamo, Johnny Whitworth and Zoe Bell (the stunt woman from Death Proof).

I hope Nevaldine and Taylor make this different from the other video gamish movies that Gamer looks quite akin to. Death Race is one I already mentioned, but The Running Man also comes very much to mind when I watch the trailer. The writer/director duo have promised personally that it’s “nothing like” either of those movies. Let’s hope they’ve stuck to their word…

What do you think of these new photos for Gamer? Are you a fan of Mark Nevaldine and Brian Taylor as filmmakers, and are you looking forward to what they’ve got in store for us with this one?

Gamer is scheduled to be released on September 4, 2009.

  1. whoa, this film may actually be worth checking out.

  2. I was interested when I saw the first trailer. I thought It’d just be a cool action movie but it looks to have a very intriguing plot and a nice cast to go along with it.

  3. Hmm, looks interesting.

  4. Not really what I’m looking for in a film,,,

Saw this trailer with Terminator and couldn’t wait for it to end… Very generic and predictable looking.

  5. Thats an unnecessary backhand slap at Ludacris…come on, whats he done to you? Okay, just joking…um, kind of. I have a soft spot for his rapping skills, just saying. As an actor, he’s kind of “unproven” so far but I beg to offer that some of the other names are too.
I admit that these pics and the fact that it is of the Crank heritage do little to enhance the film for me. I like Gerard Butler, but not sure that this is going to do anything but work against him in his career.

  6. Reminds me of ‘The Running Man’, with CG..
    and no Richard Dawson.

  7. Looks good. Like A Perfect Getaway, it looks like aa 80′s/90′s style action movie which is a good departure from all the typical summer blockbusters of today.
