Schmidt definitely had his fair share of girlfriends and lovers throughout the series of New Girl, but Cece was definitely the one that remained in his heart. However, from Elizabeth to Fawn to more, there are certainly others that stood a chance to be the last one standing.

This might be a bit of a jab at Cece, and while she certainly does find her ambition and passion by the end of the series, Fawn has always been confident in her life choices.
Much like Schmidt, Fawn cared about success and moving up in her career. In this way, the two of them might have been far more compatible in reaching their goals.
Cece: She Doesn't Need Approval
Fawn was obsessed with getting approval from everyone around her, and this really pushed her relationship with Schmidt to the test. Cece, on the other hand, never cared about what anyone thinks.
She is true to herself, and she isn't going to change or act differently based on other people. This is something that Schmidt needed, since he also used to get to caught up in what other people thought.
Fawn: They Were A Power Couple

While Fawn might have had some quirky one-liners, it goes without saying that Cece's sarcastic and witty personality is a fair better match for Schmidt. Cece is playful and easy going - she likes to have fun.
If Schmidt wanted a lady to fit in with is wild and chaotic friends in the loft of 4D, Cece's humor was certainly a better match. Plus, she's much more lovable for being a funny gal.
Fawn: She's Job-Oriented
Obviously, this was eventually the downfall to their relationship. Yet in hindsight, Schmidt and Fawn were much more alike in terms of career and values than Cece and Schmidt are.
Fawn and Schmidt both place a lot of time and value into their jobs. For a future, these two would likely never argue about how much time a job took away from them. This value is an important one to share.
Cece: She's Well-Grounded
Cece changed a lot throughout the series, and by the final few seasons, she's grounded. Unlike Schmidt, Cece was all about fun, life, and joy. She didn't care about materialistic things or being classy.
That isn't to say that Cece isn't amazing - because she is. Honestly, the fact that she can be as confident and happy as she is living her minimalist lifestyle is the entire reason she is perfect for Schmidt. He needed to learn that love is happiness, and she certainly taught him.

It's not a secret that Schmidt is the most professional and sophisticated of the group. From suits to fancy socks to mannerisms, Schmidt is all about appearance and elegance.
Fawn is one and the same in this sense. She was always ready for anything, and she had enough poise and sophistication for everyone in the loft. This is yet another reason that Schmidt and Fawn were super similar.
Cece: She's Selfless & Loving
Fawn probably didn't care about anyone besides her self and her career. Cece, on the other hand, is probably one the best friends and girlfriends one could have. She's beyond caring, and would do anything for her loved ones.
She's a ride-or-die, and has stood up for Schmidt countless times. She cares about him more than anything, and this showed Schmidt how powerful love is - and how strong they are together.
Fawn: She's Fiery
Fawn had all the fire that Schmidt ever wanted in a woman. She was confident, powerful, and totally sure of herself. Her fiery attitude was the strong woman that Schmidt always knew he needed.
Of course, Cece is certainly a strong woman, too, but it could definitely be argued that Fawn had even more fire bursting from every ounce of her. Obviously, that's probably why the gang were a bit afraid of her.
Cece: She Brings Out The Best In Him
Schmidt wasn't always a wonderful and selfless guy. Obviously, he even did some nasty things to Cece. However, his love for her changed him into a new man. Ever since, Cece has brought out his kindness.
They're an adorable couple, and none of Schmidt's friends probably ever thought he could be such a caring and devoted husband. There's only one person to thank for that, and it's Cece.
