Even though these images for G.I. Joe look pretty good (particularly the ninja fight), it still doesn’t sway me from thinking this movie is going to be bad. The G.I. Joe series has always had potential to be one kick-ass movie – but by the looks of most of what we’ve seen so far, the movie has been severely dumbed-down as far as violence. That’s not to say I was expecting Rambo (some probably were, but I think that’s pushing it), but certainly I expected more than the “safe” kind of movie this seems to be.
I have said it before and I’ll say it again – I am fully willing to be proven wrong about G.I. Joe. Who knows, maybe it will turn out to be one of the best movies of summer ’09 (although something tells me that ain’t gonna’ be the case).
G.I. Joe stars Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller, Ray Park, Marlon Wayans, Dennis Quaid, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Christopher Eccleston, Rachel Nichols, Said Taghmaoui, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Jonathan Pryce. It is directed by Stephen Sommers (The Mummy, Van Helsing).
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is slated for an August 7, 2009 release.
