Sometimes news breaks in the oddest of ways…

MTV pointed us to a podcast over at Moonbase 2, where cartoon/video game voice actor Michael Bell (you have to check out his filmography HERE) was talking about a particular audition he had just completed…to voice the character of General Hawk in an upcoming G.I. Joe cartoon series!

According to MTV’s report (I haven’t listened to the whole podcast yet), Bell – who has previously voiced G.I. Joe characters like Duke and Lift-Ticket – said the following:

“I just read for a character named General Hawk,” said Bell. “I’d love to get it. It’s 26 [episodes]. I’d absolutely love to get it, but I’m not going to kill myself if I don’t get it. But I’d love to get it, it’d be great fun.”

As MTV’s Josh Wigler points out, based on that statement there is no clear indication of whether this supposed new series would be a spinoff of the Joe universe established in this summer’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, or perhaps an ongoing extension of G.I. Joe: Resolute, the lauded animated series penned by acclaimed comic book writer Warren Ellis (Transmetropolitan), which aired on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim earlier this Spring. Of course, the series could also be an entirely new interpretation of the G.I. Joe lore…

For now we have to file this all under the RUMOR category – at least until we hear something more about the project. You can hear Bell drop the news by going HERE to listen to the podcast.

If you missed out on G.I. Joe: Resolute you can check out a teaser for the series below and catch up on the episodes (they’re about 5-min each) by going HERE.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is currently available on DVD/Blu-ray.
