QUOTE FROM PANDA: “One of tha great things about BB was seeing Bruce try out the Batman persona, some successes and some failures (before he had the ’spelunking armor’. He didn’t just walk out the door with a bat symbol on his chest and kick a$$.”

But dude, that’s the way it happened in the IM comix. He didn’t go on this looooooong ass journey to find himself and spend years developing his skills and physique. No, it all happened in ONE (1) week, baby. That’s how you do an origin in a movie, man. Wrap it up nice and quick without being underdeveloped. We don’t need these looooooong boring introductions that take up most the movie and by the time we see the hero the movie’s practically over, like BB and Superman: the movie (both were excellent films,BTW). It’s like “I wanna see Batman, dammit!! Get rid of this long ass intro crap, I know who Superman and Batman are, dammit! Can we go on with the movie now??”. Especially the Ang Lee Hulk. Good God that was a horrible origin (and not a great film anyway). I actually shouted at the TV and said “turn into the Hulk already!”. At least with the Bixby show we knew that if we tuned into the first 20 minutes of the show and the last ten we were likely to find the Hulk but god, man! Some origins are just boring!

But IM is gonna set a NEW standard in superhero movie excellence, IMO.

May 2nd can’t get here fast enough…… :-)

OH!!!

Good guy gets his “tin can” handed to him by the bad guy a few times before he actually “wins”. It wouldn’t be a drama if you didn’t think there was a way for him to lose.

=)

KEL says:

LOL,Alca. :-)

But I don’t see how that gives the plot away, I coulda told you that BEFORE seeing the trailer. ;-)

Adrian says:

Kel, was getting worried thought we might have to send out a search crew.LOL
Glad to see your comments, man!

Adrian says:

Kel, maybe B. Singer will take notes on how to approach the Superman franchise next go around after seeing such great quality this year.

KEL says:

LOL, Adrian!

Great to see you here too, bud. :-)

Exactly, Adrian! And I hope Tim Story is taking notes too incase he ever does another FF.

But yes, I hope that the next Superman film doesn’t have the wishy washy out of character garbage that SR had in it. The best things about SR, IMO, were Routh, the score, Spacey, and the costume (sorry). I’m really hoping that they get a good script that is more of a Superman story this time round that hopefully ignores the SR errors (like the bastard child!). :-)

Andy says:

OK, I downloaded the HD version of the trailer over at IGN and it looks even more incredible than the trailer Vic provided shows! This IS gonna be a kick butt movie, and I really don’t care which movie does better-IM or DK-they’re both gonna be awesome! Good summer to be a fan of superhero and adventure movies!!!

KEL says:

Ya got that right, Andy! :-D

KEL:
I was saying all GOOD things about IM! Comparing what was in the trailer to things I LIKED about Bat Beg. I don’t care if it’s one week or seven years, I like to trial and error in the origin stories of superheroes.

I’m not always playing the other side :) I am looking forward to IM. And like I said, the TDK comparisons need to stop cuz they don’t make IM and TDK are very different:

one dark, one a bit lighter in tone
one sequel, one origin story

apples to kumquats

KEL says:

LOL, Panda!

Agreed.

And I too like the trial and error in these stories, no matter how long it takes, as long as it isn’t *boring*. :-)

Adrian says:

I know that IM will do great and with that being said, IM2 will at least double the excitement with Terrence Howard aka War Machine team-up. Know that will make my head explode!>X

If IM is as good as the trailers then Jon Favreau should have is pick at ANY Superhero film especial Avengers and Cap.

KEL says:

Agreed, Adrian!

I say that Cap needs to be next! And have the film end with Cap being frozen, then have Avengers pick up with them finding Cap as a partial sequel! Just like the comix! :-D

Andy says:

Panda, Superhero movies will alway end up being compared because of the genre that they are, fair or not. Yes, some are more light-hearted than others, but they still involve people with powers and crazy costumes. That’s just the way it goes. Now if people started comparing IM and Indy, well that is 2 different types of movies and is just absurd. LOL.

Kyle says:

The movie looks friggin’ awesome and all, but I reeeeeeeally wanted to see the Mandarin. The Iron Monger is cool, but still, the Mandarin’s an interesting character.

Stephen says:

HOLY HANNA!!!!!!!!!!

Panda says:

Cap had a movie, anybody see that terd from like 20 years ago? I like KEL’s plan of the Cap movie totally during WWII, then frozen at the end forhte Avengers to find him – awesome. Marvel plays their cards right and they’ll have a string of hit movies to last the next twenty years.

BTW – Why does it seem to me that IM is getting a lot more promotion than TDK? Is it because I get all of my movie updates on this site? (I don’t even own a TV)

Zipper Stevens says:

Only thing that bugs me… Is the fight in the climax going to be at night? :( Why are all the final fight scenes at night?

Remember the box office drop from Cloverfield? They had a masterful ad campaign with a stunning teaser scene and mystery about the monster.

No one even knows that “The Dark Knight” is a Batman movie. Conversely, mentions of Heath Ledger’s most recent project referred to it as “a new Batman movie” (not using the title).

It may be a fan fave, but it won’t have staying power and I sorta doubt the sick and twisted Joker face will appear on many Apple Jacks boxes.

Wow this trailer should be it….
Just keep this one don’t give us another.

I can’t stand it.

This one is sooo awesome that its enough allready.

I don’t want anymore. Give me the film I can’t stand this IRON MAN foreplay any longer. !!
^
These trailers are a form of mental fandom abuse at this point.!!

Congrats Jon F it looks like you know your shat. I bow to thee.

This summer-coming to a theatre near you-
“A Knight and Shining Armor.”

no commenter says:

That’s right Jim, and add a touch of RED as well.

Jim Carey says:

would Red be for Wall-E?

no commenter says:

Wall- E, what’s that?

I was reffering to the line Stark tells his computer on how the mark3 armor should look.

Brian W. says:

So far the only thing that has disappointed me about IM is Mark II armor. Other than that i absolutely love everything i’ve seen or read about it.

I just can’t shake the feeling that i’m setting myself up for disappointment…again.

steve adams says:

Brian It looks like the Mark 2 armor dosnt last too long in the film.
^
I think it looks great however. The morphing capabilities look very cool.

KEL says:

I agree with everything you said, Jim. And I think they should keep Batman in the title somewhere so non fans know what it is. :-) Most people I’ve showed TDK trailer too are usually like “……”. Mostly cuz they’re so shocked by it but they no I like Batman but are afraid to knock it. Doing such a demented Joker is gonna be a bad idea in the long run, IMO. Joker doesn’t need to be like that in order to stay true to the comix and if TDK bombs we may end up with another nipple donning Batman with gay overtones al la the Joel Shumacher B & R. I’ve gotta baaaad feeling about this (sorry). ;-)

Thanks, Panda. I’m glad you liked my idea, bud. :-)

LOL, Steve! :-D

* Most people I’ve showed TDK trailer to have had reactions like this: “…..”. Mostly because they are completely shocked by what they just saw (negatively) but know I like Batman and are just afraid to knock it.

^ That’s how I meant to write that. Sorry. :-)

I for one want a Dark Batman film.
They should all be dark and rated R.
Who wants little kids in the theatre anyway. Kids are great an all but they shouldn’t have any influence on Superhero films.
There’s plenty of kiddie movies out there don’t ruin my Batman movies.
To say that nobody knows about TDK because of the title is sooo off base. Everyone I know that’s a Batman film fan totally knows about this film.
And who cares about Iron Man beating Batman in BO receipts. Both of these films have the same fanbase anyway. DC or Marvel who cares.
They ruined Fantastic 4 by making it PG-13.
