Shane,

You mention a very valid point regarding the film having so many big names attached. IMHO there is a tipping point connected to star power in a movie, where the quality shifts from excellent to poor due to either the fact that everyone is congratulating each other on the set, the director doesn't want to trip any delicate tempers, or perhaps the idea that just having a bunch of big-name actors in a film makes it good by default.

There are, of course, exceptions. But I've seen that happen in many films.

Vic

I was excited to hear about the project way back when, and though the talent does interest me, I still hold some concern as to what they're going to do with this. If it's rated PG13 or any higher, we're bound to see a film much closer to the classic tale but if we get PG or G fare, it may very well be a washed out disappointment.

Still, I'm optimistic. So far, everything we've seen looks to be on track.

The same tech drove Monster House, which avoided the Uncanny Valley effect of Polar Express by using a very stylized character design. If the Beowulf character design is done well (and if the cinematography equals their work on MH) it'll be great.

Shane,

Having a celtic background and a love for fantasy stories really puts me in the driver seat for a Beowulf movie -- but do you know anything about what rating they'll be going for here? I picked up from your post that it will be animated, which is usually for the kiddies; however, if Gaiman is writing and it's the Beowulf story -- I'm not seeing anything less than a PG-13 if it's done well.

Thanks for the post,

Reverend
