Video game… when are they going to show something from the MOVIE? I’m not going to get this game because it’s being made by those idiots at Ubisoft. So that means it’s going to be a console game with a really half-ass lazy port to the PC that will be full of bugs, no thanks.

Iron Knight says:

Don’t worry Ken J, there are a number of websites that claim that a trailer will be attached to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Ken J says:

A movie I’m not planning on seeing, damn, maybe I’ll go to see another movie and sneak into that to see the trailer. Or wait for it to go online…

Fenix says:

Oh come on this movie is gonna rock. The game is actually being developed in 3d as well so that should prove interesting. If you actually watch that demo that James Cameron did he does delve a little bit in to the tech behind it which is also what the game is using. Ubisoft is massive right now and sure all their games aren’t awesome but a few come to mind right off the bat. Assassins Creed, Prince of Persia, Far Cry 1 and 2, all the Tom Clancy games. Maybe your all in to Mario and Wii sports or whatever to get you in shape but those games are all pretty solid if I’m not mistaken. Transformers will be awesome, can’t wait to see the trailer!

Ken J says:

No, I’m into gaming on the REAL gaming machine, the PC. Better graphics, free online, free downloads, mouse aiming, cheaper games, etc. I don’t bother with paying more for inferior games, sorry.

Fenix says:

Ha, Id admit PC games used to be on top I loved the oldies. (Half-life, CS, Starcraft, Warcraft, Age of Empires) but today in this day in age you are living and breathing in a world where consoles will surpass the PC in everything including control. Have you heard of project Natal? Little something microsoft has cookin up. Avatar will revolutionize movies while Natal will revolutionize gaming. In about 6 months- 1 year you will understand. By the way im not a PC game hater… I love crysis haha :) I’ve just gotten used to the xbox controller.

Ken J says:

LMAO, consoles cannot surpass PC’s, and the reason is simple, console hardware is based off PC hardware. But while the console is being polished and finishing up, that PC hardware just became obsolete and the next generation of video card and processor has just released for the PC when that console is just coming out. People don’t want to admit it, but PC’s were already far ahead of all of the “next generation” consoles when they came out. I call them the “one generation too late” consoles.

You guys make a big deal about HD this, HD that, PC gamers have been playing games in “HD” for YEARS and YEARS, probably close to a decade already, lmao! :-D

And so far the only thing that even comes close to being as good as mouse aiming in a shooter is the Wii controller, and with enough practice it probably is better. But too bad people have already gotten the Wii controller to work on the PC and PC has their own 3-dimensional control device, and more are in development. Only problem with them now is cost, too expensive, and they need more support to make the costs viable. So it’s really up to the consumer to provide this demand…

Too bad the idiot masses seem to prefer the console simply because it’s more convenient. I’m not so willing to sacrifice quality for mere convenience…

Fenix says:

not everyone can shell out 400+ for a video card every month…. some of us are in school still. Until then consoles will have to suffice.

Fenix says:

“close to a decade”? Oh ok guy so you were playing half life, age of empires and baldurs gate in HD back in 1999… Maybe just a little bit of a fabrication to prove a point. There is only one game exclusive to PC that comes to mind that is worth mentioning and I already did that.

Voice of Reason says:

Halo what?
Consoles inferior to pcs but pc game market is dying because of the cost to keep up.

Ken J says:

Every month?? I’ve been using the same video card for more than a year (Maybe even 2 years? When did the nVidia 8600 come out?) and it’s been playing games at higher resolutions and higher detail levels than the console versions of the same games, lol. And it didn’t cost me anywhere near $400, you must get ripped off a lot. The MOST I’ve spent for a video card was $200.

Right now I can build a top-of-the-line Intel Core i7 rig with 6gb of DDR3 RAM, ATI 4890, and 1.5TB of harddrive space for around $600-$700 and that will last me a good 5 years or more. And while you think that number sounds high, what are you surfing this website on? That’s right, a PC, you need a PC ANYWAY, getting a console is $300 ON TOP of the cost of your PC. Playing games on your PC means you are playing games on something you already have anyway, so technically it’s almost free, lol.

I love the “PC’s are so much more expensive” argument. If I wanted to build a PC with the graphical power of the Xbox 360, it’ll probably cost around $100 since that hardware is like 4 generations obsolete… The $700 I quoted would be building a machine that is about 10 times as powerful as the Xbox 360.

And you realize that “HD” is just some stupid term they gave to any tv with a resolution above 640×480 right? That’s right, tv’s have been on 640×480 resolution the whole time before “HD,” while computer monitors have been running at resolutions of 1280×960 for quite some time now. Even 800×600 which was a pretty low resolution, even for back then, is technically considered “HD” to TV standards. Right now I have two monitors, my main one is small, running at 1440×900 (still technically HD, lol), don’t like to game on a monitor too large, but the second one is running at a resolution of 1920×1200. Yes, I’ve run games on it at that resolution, yes they run great.

Several of my friends have Xbox 360’s and PS3, and sorry, it’s a FACT, they’ve all spent MUCH more money on their console and games than I have on my PC and my games and my games look better on my PC and come with all of the perks I’ve mentioned before. So keep using the “PC’s are expensive to game on” argument, I love hearing it. :-)

And games don’t need to be “Exclusive” to PC for it to be worth having the PC. A lot of the games I have come on consoles as well. The difference is that the console versions look so much crappier than my PC version. Perfect example is Bioshock. I have it running with ALL settings on the highest detail settings, and it runs silky smooth. On the PS3 and Xbox 360, they had to dumb down the graphics to get it to run, their highest graphics setting is about the same as medium for the PC. Pretty sad… And my computer is old… I want to upgrade, but don’t NEED to, but want to get ready for Operation Flashpoint 2… ;-)

Fenix says:

We are not all comp gurus like you and I’m actually on an iphone instead of my laptop. Maybe every month was a little of an exaggeration but new vid cards are coming out a hellavu lot faster than new consoles bro. And I happen to like playing Halo or Call of Duty or Metal Gear in 1080p hdmi on my 62 inch samsung plasma is that such a crime. I’d rather be doing that than playing on your dual monitors which im sure don’t exceed what 30′? Your making resloution way too big of a deal as well. I’ve played games (like bioshock) on both platforms. Another one was Far Cry 2. While I will completely agree that the PC has smoother textures and graphcis, that might suffer with framerate issues etc. I honestly don’t mind playing a game a little dumbed down graphically when I know it will run perfectly with no choppyness. Bioshock still looked great on 360 and so did Far Cry as well. I believe Ubisoft is creating Crysis or Far Cry 3 on consoles which will be using an experimental Crytek 3.0 engine so hopefully that might sway your views.

a $300 pc is more powerful than a console

dreamhunk says:

ubisot may make that ports but this game maybe a high tech game on the pc. The director wants the game to be a creten way. The way he wants it, can only be done best on a pc.

dreamhunk says:

ubisoft may make bad ports but this game maybe a high tech game on the pc. The director wants the game to be a creten way. The way he wants it, can only be done best on a pc. By the way the pc gaming has alot of “Exclusive”. In fact it has entire genres that can be done on it.

sorry for the second post.

Mike says:

I’d like to build a core i7 rig with the specs you outlined above, but when i price one out, it comes to $1200 w/case, power supply, o/s, optical drives, mobo etc. Can you share a bit more detail on your hypothetical build as I’m in the market and it would help me out a lot.

Thanks!

dreamhunk says:

I would wait for the core i7 to drop in price. Right now I7 computers are over kill for gaming wise. I am pretty sure the price will drop in a year.

how much is a ps3 $499, You can get a pc that runs crysis for $500. Games on the pc is also cheaper than console games. What people paying for these days for console game $70 to $100. Pc games sell around $50 tops only CE games sell for $100.

dreamhunk says:

Oh by the way pc gaming is so advnced you can now play games with just your mind. The tech right is just getting even more improved on.

Fenix says:

Ok wow im in college and I still don’t think console games are THAT much more than PC games. What 10 to 15 dollar difference? Also you forget the social aspect of consoles being able to play with multiple people on the same screen. Also in my experience for multiplayer gaming, xbox live beats everything in terms of stability (lag/choppiness, whatever). A PC for 500 might RUN crysis but I don’t think it will run it at max resolution and graphics settings. The last games I recall being better on PC than the consoles was Mafia and the Max Payne games. And thats because the console versions were dumbed down ports not designed specifically with consoles in mind. And as much as you might hate to admit it, thats where the money is and their in thats what developers are targeting. PCs just like arcade games are slowly fading into the past. Or maybe im just saying this because im still chugging along on my old 05 PC.

dreamhunk says:

pc gaming is alot social that consoles. Pc gaming social aspect is world wide. You have been for years now. in fact there is huge coumuntis over a singe game.

dreamhunk says:

pc gaming is alot more social that consoles. Pc gaming social aspect is world wide. WE have been for years now. In fact there is huge coumuntis over a singe game.

sorry

NHOJ says:

Jesus, people…grow up.

You all sound like little kids, squabbling like this over the merits of PC/Console gaming. PC gaming is great, console gaming is great. Both have their merits and their downfalls but both are great.

There. See how simple that was?

Also, where’s my movie trailer damnit? I find it hilarious that we’re seeing elements of this movie being revelaed to us through videogame screenshots of all things.

Voice of Reason says:

I actually like the battle of pc vs console. And little kids don’t know much about pc’s so you’re the one that sounds childish crying about debate over things.

Fenix says:

hey guy nobody is at eachothers throats here. We are just bored and want to have a good ol debate. If you don’t have anything to add than stay the hell out of it. Theres only so much you can say about 3 screenshots….

Ken J says:

@Fenix, Bioshock runs silky smooth for me with all settings on the highest they will go… and I don’t at all have a new computer. But you just said you have a laptop, that could explain it, since a $700 PC will probably be 2-3 times faster than a $700 laptop, you have to pay for the portability, costs more to try to make things smaller.

@Mike, why buy a new case and optical drive? You have one right? Reuse the parts you can reuse.

Core i7 920 CPU goes for around $270-$280
3×2G DDR3 memory (triple channel instead of Dual Channel now) goes for around $100
X58 motherboard: $170
ATI 4890: $170-$200

Which brings it to around $720 :-) Newegg is my friend. Also check mwave.com and zipzoomfly.com but Newegg is usually the cheapest or very close to it.

I just keep checking slickdeals.net for deals on harddrives, because there are new ones every week.

It was cheaper last week because they had some great deals on the 4890, keep an eye out on slickdeals.net, there are ALWAYS deals. I actually bought a Sapphire 4890 1GB last week. Oh yah, I cheated on the price of the Core i7 buld because I already had the 4890, so don’t have to get that, oops, I just realized that, it should be around $800 total.

Prices will keep dropping on video cards because nVidia is releasing a new video card soon. Also, replace the 4890 with the 4870, and you can save close to $80-$100 off that, bringing the total down to the $700’s and if you need a new power supply, you can get good ones from like OCZ for like $40 at like 700W or so.

When I upgrade my computer to the Core i7 specs I just talked about, I might get another 4890 and crossfire them, lol. It’ll be faster than consoles two generations from now, LMAO! :-D

I also bought the LG Blu-Ray/HD-DVD DVD-R burner combo drive for $100 a few weeks ago, so I can play Blu Rays and HD-DVD’s, which you can find cheap cheap now since that format died, lol. And with a $100 tv tuner I can turn my computer into a DVR.

PC, Movie player, game console, DVR, all in one!

Now compare that to doing things the conventional way:

Buy a Dell PC or Laptop: $600-$800
Xbox360 or PS3: $300-$400
Accessories for the console: $50-$100
Premium on console games: $10-$20 each game (they cost that much more tan the PC version)
DVR: $150-$300

You can see which option is cheaper right away…

If you want to build a computer from scratch, a decent no-frills case would cost you very little, $40-$100, an optical drive would be $30-$100 depending on what you want, keyboard and mouse $10-$50. The most expensive part would be the monitor, but if you already have a hi-def TV, just use that as the monitor, most video cards have HDMI outputs now anyway…

So play your PC games on your however many inch tv you have. :-)

Fenix says:

Ken J

Ok well you sold me on that I might have to upgrade here in the near future but I’m still standing by my beloved consoles! By the way I’m watching blu rays on my comp without a burner, its called Azureus sonnn :)

Ken J says:

@Fenix

Well I’m not trying to convince you to change anything, it’s just a counter to your point that PC gaming is more expensive, just trying to show that it isn’t. Not everyone knows how to build computers, most people would just go out and buy one, and to buy one like I spec’ed would probably cost closer to $1000, or more, although I’ve actually seen some pretty decent deals on whole computers too. Like someone else have said, you can get a computer with the graphical power of consoles now for about $300 if you keep an eye out for deals.

I’m not saying that you and everyone else should get into PC gaming, although that would be nice because that would mean more games with the increased demand, I’m just stating the reasons why I’m into it and not into console gaming. Consoles are much more convenient than PC gaming, but overall it costs more to be a console gamer, and I’m simply not willing to pay more just for the convenience.

My friend just got a Xbox 360, and we’ve been playing Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 on it, which is pretty blah in my opinion, and if you want to hear me cursing up a storm, just watch me play, I really hate trying to aim with a joystick, lol. The mouse is so much more precise in shooters than the joystick… That might be another reason why I’ve stuck with PC’s, I love shooters, and nothing beats the mouse for aiming, nothing yet at least… The Wii comes close, but it’s still a pain to turn beyond the edge of the screen, with the mouse, turning all the way around takes about a blink of an eye’s time, lol. Useful if you’re being attacked by a zombie, lol.

Do you play Left 4 Dead?

Fenix says:

Yes my friend Left 4 Dead is tight and I would imagine that it is better on the PC since its running on that modded source engine which is what I used to play CS: source on and is specifically designed with PC gamers in mind. However, ever since Halo found that great balance with the controls I’ve never had a problem with playing them on consoles. Rainbow six Vegas is ok but I see how the experience might be hampered since theres no mouse and keyboard. Rainbow six games were originally PC games and I loved the first few that were released like ten years ago on the PC. As for the Wii coming close to the mouse.. ehh I gotta go against you on that one. I think the Wii is weakkk and is made for toddlers or people who are trying to get in shape playing a video game (Wii Fit). I respect Nintendo and the audience they are trying to target but I do not fall in to that audience. But yes shooters are some of my favorite games and I agree nothing beats the mouse. I also love RTS games and I used to play thosee just as much as shooters. Those are also tough games to convert to consoles because the mouse and keyboard are so essential for unit management and such. The next PC game I will buy will most likely be Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3 which is nuts b/c I haven’t bought a PC game in years but those two look very promising!

The Voice of Reason says:

mouse and keyboard control is definitely dominant over console controllers but they release so many more games on consoles.

the ones i love most on consoles are counter-strike, cs source, call of duty modern warfare, bioshock and fallout 3.

@fenix

if you haven’t played fallout 3 i would check it out. it’s pretty sweet.

Fenix says:

I agree fosho, Hey your talking to a veteran gamer here haha. Fallout 3 is the shit I played it all the way thru and loved every minute of it. The player is really immersed in that world and its done so well. Since my xbox just broke :( I have to send it in so i’m relying on PC games until then but my comp was brand new circa 2004… So i’m playing games like battle for middle earth, diablo and warcraft, you know the great throwback titles. I can’t play shooters tho because i’m used to the latest and greatest and those old shooters on the PC just won’t cut it. I really like the battlefield games and I hope the new one will be just as sick as the last. Oh by the way, another great game that immerses you in the world= Dead Space… they need to makee that in to a movie!

Fenix says:

My name also might be a hint that I’m a gamer… Starcraft sonnn

Iron Knight says:

Damn, have you guys ever played Resident Evil 4 on the Wii? It is and feels awesome. Although I do think PC games are top notch too. My favourite one is Age of Empires II. It is so addictive for me. Just thinking about it right now makes me want to play it. Mmmm…

aGeneral says:

thank you for following up with this game, I’ve been to lazy to search for it my self.

@NHOJ

The game has absolutely nothing to do with the movie in any way, they have different characters, weapons, vehicles, story, factions… etc. And it should come out 2mths (I think) before the movie.

SK-47 says:

These screens makes me wish for a MechWarrior film.

Fenix says:

It actually does have something to do with the movie in the way that its set in the same universe… It’s called a parallel story and even though main characters from the movie might make cameos, There will be an independent story to educate us on the lore of Pandora and hype us for the film that will be released a couple months after. I mean would you rather them mimic the exact story and release it before the movies? (ala Spider-Man games and many others) that doesn’t make any sense does it.

Ken J says:

@Fenix

I was mainly only talking about the Wii’s controller being close to mouse aiming in that the aiming thing moves as fast as you can move your hands and not limited by “sensitivity” settings like a joystick is. But the Wii is only limited by what game companies can come up with. They think it has a kid image so they make kid games. It’s not like if you tried to make a more adult game on the Wii the console will explode or something. Resident Evil 4 on Wii is awesome and so are the Metroid Prime games. And I’m sorry, I’m not a kid, but I LOVE Mario games and always have.

I used to play the original Rainbow Six games then Rogue Spear back in the day. Too bad Redstorm was bought out by Ubisoft…
