Today we have some new images for the upcoming movie adaption of the Japanese manga and television series Astro Boy. The film is produced by Summit Entertainment and is directed by David Bowers (Flushed Away). It will be voiced by Nicolas Cage, Kristen Bell, Donald Sutherland, Nathan Lane, Bill Nighy, Eugene Levy, Matt Lucas and Freddie Highmore.

In case any of you don’t know what the movie is about, here is the synopsis courtesy of MovieWeb:
Astro Boy tells the story of a powerful robot boy created by a brilliant scientist in the image of the son he has lost. Our hero journeys to find acceptance in the human world, and ultimately discovers true friendship as he uses his incredible powers to help others and save Metro City from destruction.
Since I hadn’t even heard of Astro Boy never mind having seen the TV series or read the manga series, I have to go purely on the movie by its own merits. But from the synopsis I think I fall on the “looks like fun” side of the fence. I know I won’t be alone on that one but also know that there will be countless others who will say it looks awful. That’s the beauty of film; it’s all subjective (mostly).
The above images look really cute in my opinion, and the last three depicting what I can only guess are real scenes from the movie look really cool. I also like the cast they’ve managed to get and really don’t mind the poster and teaser trailer. I hope the film turns out to be more than just the shiny look of it though, I hope it offers something more to chew than what most animated movies offer these days; looks and cheap laughs.
What do you make of these images and Astro Boy in general? Like the look of it or think it looks lame?

I like Astro Boy cartoons. Remind my of the John Quest cartoons on similarities of violence,comedy, and story. The film looks great so far and some actors attached are A-list. The probably Astro Boy has that keeps the character unsuccessful in the U.S. is the questionable perverted look of Astro Boy.
Most of the American public is turned off by the odd and somewhat perverted knee-high, red boot, no-shirt with breifs look on a cyborg child. If the character could be shown with more scenes with clothes or given a more aggressive look similar to Dragonball Z, then public oppinion would change, but til then sadly I don’t see any major changes in U.S. public oppinion.
I hope they make a CGI Swat Kat film someday, that would be awesome. Swat Kats is the greatest animation of all time. There was nothing corny about it and all cool. Especially that jet and the bike, and the thunder truck, and the glovatrixs’. Astro boy is pretty cool as well . Like a Iron Man kid who does not need a suit
Astro Boy is the grand daddy of all anime. Before Inuyasha and all the rest that were created after him, he was , and is my favorite. It just brings to life so many childhood memories. Great cartoon, great story line, wonderfull episodes.
