Centurion First Look: Neil Marshalls Centurion

For whatever reason the first international trailer for Centurion, the new film from director Neil Marshall (The Descent, Doomsday) slipped passed us when it debuted a couple of weeks ago – but fear not, as we now have it for you to enjoy. If the trailer hooks your interest and you’re wondering when we can see the movie then you’re in luck, as we also have some info on Centurion being picked up for distribution.

In case you’re not familiar with the project (and if you only come to Screen Rant for your news you may not be), here’s the official plot synopsis for Centurion:

Boasting savagely violent battle scenes and an adrenaline fueled chase through the breathtaking Scottish highlands, CENTURION is set during the war between Roman soldiers and Pict tribesmen during the 2nd century Roman conquest of Britain. Michael Fassbender stars as Quintus Dias, Roman centurion and son of a legendary gladiator who leads a group of soldiers on a raid of a Pict camp to rescue a captured general (Dominic West). The son of the Pict leader is murdered during the raid, and the Romans find themselves hunted by a seemingly unstoppable group of the Pict’s most vicious and skilled warriors, led by a beautiful and deadly tracker (Olga Kurylenko), who are hell bent on revenge.

Now here’s the international trailer, courtesy of Trailer Addict. Enjoy:

Looks pretty damn cool to me. I’m glad to see the continuing success of Michael Fassbender, whom we saw in Inglourious Basterds as the British officer who gives himself away in the bar – and also as the Spartan in 300 who hoped that one of the Persians were up to the task of killing him.

Bond girl Olga Kurylenko is always…appealing to look at (although she’s toughened up for her role here) and Dominic West I will always be a fan of, since he starred in one of the greatest TV shows of all time, The Wire. Oh, and the film is from The Descent director, Neil Marshall, so it already has my money right there icon smile First Look: Neil Marshalls Centurion .

Moving on from the trailer, Magnolia Pictures announced yesterday that it has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Centurion. It is being launched as the sixth entry into the “Six Shooter Film Series” which is a six-film collection of “the most exciting contemporary worldwide action films,” which also includes Bronson, Red Cliff, Ong Bak 2, District 13: Ultimatum and The Warlords.

When can we expect to see Centurion? Well, the press release on this news says a summer 2010 theatrical release is being planned. So not that long to wait.

  1. the women in this are very bruteifull… just the way i like them!

  2. Good cast, and I'm interested to see where Marshall goes with this, even if it does sound like an Iron Age Apocalypto meets The Warriors, as the plot is supposedly based around the actual disappearance of the Ninth Legion in 117 AD. I liked The Descent, couldn't stand the Escape From Mad Max II Bentley ad that was Doomsday, and still haven't seen Dog Soldiers yet. Was that Noel “Mickey from Doctor Who” Clarke I spotted in the trailer?

“Bruteifull” is a fantastic word by the way, jamhead.

  3. The trailer reminds me of The Warriors, and i like Neils work even Doomsday so i'll definitely give this one a shot.

  4. I will watch this just cause I like this genre. Being of portuguese descent, i would've liked to see a movie about the Roman battles in Iberia (Portugal & Spain) and their defeats against the outnumbered iberian clans lead by Viriathus! Wiki that name :)

  5. ya i wasn't sure about the “ei” in that but i think it works.

  6. “Pretty damn cool” indeed…Marshal will always have a fan in me after The Descent (one of the few good horror movies in recent history).

Plus, like you said, it has Olga :)

  7. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!
    that looks amazing !!
I've never heard about this one , it looks like a really fun movie !!!!!
    can't wait :)

  8. Swords, arrows and blood. I am all in.

  9. I think in the end Titus Pullo and Lucius Vorenus will come to their rescue… lol

  10. “Bruteiful” is a good way to put it.

  11. Robin Hood meets Avatar?

  12. I'm way more interested in the bad guys than the Romans.

  13. Seems like intense acting means screaming. That's all they do in this trailer. Doesn't look too good to me.

  14. Romans! Glorious Roman soldiers! I have been craving to see Roman soldiers in action since Gladiator! Why did they make me wait so long? Now, I get to see beautiful, glorious roman legionnaries in action! Heil Caesar!!!!!

  15. looks awesome. i love period pieces that are based on some truth…yet a little overexaggerated.

  17. Looks a whole heap better than Clash of the Titans with Sam “The Wooden Man” Worthington

  18. Just watched it for a second time, and too be honest, it looks pretty damn good. It could be the normally “Every good bit in the tailer” syndrome that Hollywood likes, but I'm hoping it's The Warriors+Dog Soldiers with a budget+The good bits of Descent (The first one, not the second.) If it manages that it will be awesome.
Kind of like The 13th Warrior, which is probably going to get some raised eyebrows, but it was a solid, under rated period action movie.

  19. Just watched the trailer…. WOW!!!

  20. He is a bit wooded isn't he…. never thought about that till you mentioned it. But you are right.

  21. That Noel Clarke has ruined everything he has starred in. Hopefully he'll get killed off sharpish..

  22. Couple of lagers and any woman is bruteiful.

  23. Hey! A fellow “Tuga”. =)
Would be great to see that. I don't remember that actually being explored in any movie, tought I could be wrong.
Anyway, looks pretty good to me.

  24. This whole Roman theme always reminds me of the Eagle series of novels by Simon Scarrow.
I wonder, are there any other fans of this series?
I really think some of the books in the series have potencial to be transfered to the big screen..

  25. I liked Noel Clarke in Doctor Who, but I don't remember ever seeing him in any other movie.
