Acclaimed author of American Gods Neil Gaiman might publicly read the Cheesecake Factory menu for charity. Gaiman - whose writing spans from novels, short fiction, comic books, graphic novels to audio theater and film - has been in the spotlight as of late with his novel American Gods being adapted into the Bryan Fuller's hit TV series for the small screen on STARZ starring Ricky Whittle, Ian McShane and Emily Browning.

Now, Gaiman has a new challenge bestowed on him from fellow author as he has been challenged to read the infamously never-ending Cheesecake Factory menu (which includes a staggering 250 dishes made fresh everyday) in public. If he does so, $500,000 will go to the charity of his choice.

Sara Benincasa challenged Gaiman to her friendly wager on Twitter. Gaiman has since responded to Benincasa's challenge saying that he will read the Cheesecake Factory menu if Benincasa can raise the $500k by World Refugee Day on June 20. The author selected United Nations Refugee Agency as his charity of choice if Benincasa can raise the money.

Dear @neilhimself: for $500K to the charity of your choice would you read the Cheesecake Factory menu in its entirety onstage pls advise pic.twitter.com/0pptJKTaM0— Sara Benincasa (@SaraJBenincasa) May 19, 2017

If (for example) @audible_com made a healthy donation to the https://t.co/AnAsey5iMi I bet @SaraJBenincasa would make an audiobook happen. https://t.co/pqlPyqycOC— Neil Gaiman (@neilhimself) May 26, 2017

Gaiman has also raised the stakes and stated that if Benincasa can raise $1 million he will also do a public reading of a Dr. Seuss book and has even considered the idea of recording the reading in an audio book format so all of his fans can get a chance to listen. So far Benincasa has raised over $63,000 on the project's crowdfunding page at Crowdrise.

Gaiman is a Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker award winning fantasy and science fiction author of popular fantasy novels, his most notable being The Graveyard BookThe SandmanThe Ocean at the End of the Lane, American Gods and Stardust. Gaiman is also known for his frequent public performances and readings of his stories and poetry, which makes it no surprise that Benincasa chose Gaiman for this particular challenge.

Benincasa is an American comedian and author who is known for her fictional novels Great and DC Trip and her non-fictional works Agorafabulous!: Dispatches from My Bedroom and Real Artists Have Day Jobs (And Other Awesome Things They Don't Teach You In School). She also has a web series on her YouTube channel called Gettin' Wet with Sara Benincasa where she sits in a bathtub with guests that have included Margaret Cho, Donald Glover and Neil Gaiman himself.
