nbc hero NBC Picks Up A New Superhero Show

For some reason unbeknownst to the entire world, NBC has decided to pick up a new superhero series called The Cape written by Tom Wheeler who did the mini-series Empire for ABC in 2005. Hmm… doesn’t NBC already have a superhero series? Maybe they should be paying more attention to that rather than trying to find its replacement. Although, maybe there’s something to this one… let’s take a look at the description.

Set in the fictional Jefferson City, (a Los Angeles-type city where corrupt private industries are taking over everything”) a former cop framed for a crime who becomes the Cape, a masked hero, to clear his name and reunite with his son.

Nope, not at all…. Couldn’t they have least used some kind of “BOOM!” or “POW!” to spice up the description? I don’t about you, but NBC has really worn out its welcome regarding superhero series. One fledgling series is enough for me.

Still, there might be something to this as its executive produced by one time ABC exec, Lloyd Braun. The man who green lit Lost before getting blamed for all of ABC’s problems and canned. (Spoilers: It wasn’t his fault.)

What say you? Are you ready for NBC to ruin superheroes any more? Does The Cape sound like something you’d like to see? Is there any way that this could be good?

  1. This will fail miserably.

  2. This sounds and looks completely awful. Horrible premise, horrible plot.

They would have to get the greatest writers in the hisyory of television to make this interesting. If they go the comedy route it wont last a season.

  3. Epic fail. NBC's Heroes is enough waste of time as a superhero series and Chuck used to be a decent premise that has lost its umph. The Cape sounds like the premise of The Spirit and the Punisher and could possibly work, but it won't on this network. The Cape should try SciFi, and NBC should stick to what they know, Catching Pedophiles.

  4. Even if it's the greatest show ever I won't invest my time in it. Like all network shows it will be cancelled the as soon as they realize it's not a run away hit.

  5. I like how the description isn't even grammatically correct haha. I don't have time for any new shows.

  6. But superheroes don't wear costumes!
They wear plainclothes or at best some high-end athletic gear.
And they DEFINITELY don't fight crime, they just angst around like soap opera characters that do something superhuman once in a while.
    This is a horrible idea.

  7. Someone explain to me when, why and how “Heroes” started failing again.

  8. I still haven't watched NBC for screwing Conan

  9. Let me revise the statement “but NBC has really worn out its welcome regarding superhero series.”

I'm pretty sure NBC has just really worn out its welcome in general lately.

  10. when – that would be during the second season
how – bad writing caused the series to lose interest (like killing off Ali Landry and resurrecting her a million times)
why – I blame the writers strike. The show was working, but then they were forced to make a shortened season that didn't fit well with the show.

  11. NBC, please do NOT replace Heroes with this loser.

  12. Bad idea.

  13. re: how – they only killed her off twice. Ali Larter died a third time in Obsessed with Beyonce.
re: when – every time Sylar didn't die. But the show didn't reallllly suck until Villains happened.
    re: why – yep.

  14. Bad idea.

  16. Summer Glau.
She is certainly a possibility of success for The Cape. But the question is if “The Cape” is a good opportunity for this charming, athletic, professional and perhaps too unjustly underrated Actress.
