Veteran TV director Simon Curtis started his feature film career with My Week with Marilyn. Now he will follow the acclaimed biopic with something slightly different. Variety has word that Curtis has inked a deal to helm Click to Connect, a project that is being currently set up over at Fox 2000.
According to the trade, the film will be a romantic anthology set in the online dating world. Characters appearing in the film will range in age from their 20s to their 60s. So both technology and past love experiences will play a factor in the characters’ decision making.
Hopefully the movie will be a little more poetic than the vignettes seen in Valentine’s Day or New Year’s Eve, and something closer to Love Actually. And like all the romantic anthologies before Click to Connect, you can expect to hear some pretty big names – of all ages and star power – getting attached to the film.
Variety says Curtis signed on to the project with the goal of showcasing his range as a filmmaker. For a guy who was able to earn two Oscar nominations for his feature-film directorial debut, Curtis deserves to be able to spread his wings and not be tied down to what launched his directing career.
Before being tasked with My Week With Marilyn, Curtis was a longtime TV man, having worked on numerous TV movies and even executively producing half-dozen films before making his feature directorial debut with My Week With Marilyn, which he also exec produced.
Click to Connect is penned by Liz Tuccillo, who teamed with Greg Behrendt to write the bestselling book He’s Just Not That Into You, which New Line brought to the bigscreen in 2009. Tuccillo’s other book, How to Be Single is being adapted by Drew Barrymore.
Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan will produce through DiNovi Pictures. Currently there is no release date set for Click to Connect.
