Taking the manga and anime world by storm, My Hero Academia continues introducing new and interesting characters and quirks in the latest addition to their spin-off series My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions. This second volume features Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo teaming up once again to take a hands-on test against Odd-Eye. His unique quirk, Mind Reaper, presents a problem for the heroes, bringing out their inner darkness.

For those unfamiliar with My Hero Academia, the action-packed series takes place in a world where a majority of the population develops superpowers known as quirks. My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions is one of several spin-offs, including My Hero Academia Vigilantes, which features civilians who don't have the appropriate training or hero license taking on threats, and the comedic My Heroine Academia featuring mostly the female characters from the series. Team-Up Missions features a program set up by the educational system in the world of My Hero Academia in which pro heroes are assigned a group of aspiring heroes to go on missions.

The distribution website Previewsworld revealed three page spreads from My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions Volume 2. The story is written by Kouhei Horikoshi and Yoko Akiyama with artwork by Akiyama. In the preview, several aspiring heroes, including Midoriya, Bakugo, Tokoyami, and Kuroiro find themselves up against Odd-Eye. Despite having many of the hallmarks of a villain, including an ominous lair and monologuing for his introduction, Odd-Eye is a Pro Hero who is testing the students. His quirk demonstrated in the preview, Mind Reaper, reveals the darkness hiding within people's hearts.

The Mind Reaper quirk could serve as an excellent character development device, showing readers these heroes' most closely guarded secrets and how they can (or cannot) overcome them. The preview really strays away from the idea of Midoriya's dark transformation as it exposes his embarrassing, so-called "inner darkness," which is just him blurting out his old notes that he wrote down while daydreaming, fanboying over All-Might as per usual. The Mind Reaper quirk certainly has major setbacks though, as Odd-Eye says he needs to have physical contact with the person to reveal their hidden darkness.

The extent that the Mind Reaper ability will be explored can be checked out right away by readers as the second volume of My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions is currently available in stores, having released back on January 5, 2022, for $9.99. The preview also didn't showcase the other story, which features Tokoyami, Bakugo, and Todoroki going to an amusement park as well as a bonus story that takes place before the events of the main My Hero Academia manga (which has currently started its final arc) with Midoriya and Bakugo coming into contact with a villain.
