Warning: Spoilers for Ms. Marvel episode 3

Ms. Marvel’s shocking origin reveal is a hint that Kamala Khan is on a level of power above even Captain Marvel herself. In Marvel Comics, Kamala is an Inhuman whose stretching abilities make her capable of some impressive feats. But as useful as her ability has proven to be, she’s not in the same class as characters like Captain Marvel, Hulk, Thor, or even Iron Man.

Disney+’s Ms. Marvel show is sending the MCU’s take on Kamala Khan in a different direction. Rather than become an Inhuman via Terrigenesis, Kamala came into the possession of a cosmic-powered bangle resembling the Quantum Bands from Marvel Comics. Apparently, the bangle revealed Kamala’s true nature. As for what that actually is, Ms. Marvel episode 3 properly cleared up that mystery with the introduction of the ClanDestines, Marvel’s interpretation of the Djinn. Kamala’s great-grandmother was a ClanDestine who crossed over from a place called the Noor Dimension.

Swapping the Inhumans with the ClanDestines for Kamala’s MCU origin is indicative of her true capabilities as a superhero.  In Marvel Comics, the Clan Destine family was imbued with incredible powers because of their mother, Elalyth. Elalyth was an all-powerful Djinn trapped in Yden, a magical city hidden in the mountains of Iran. The powers of every member of the Clan Destine family derived from her, giving them all immortality and making them each a force to be reckoned with. Now that Aisha’s bangle has unlocked Kamala’s full potential, it’s possible that she too has the supreme powers of the Djinn from the comic books. If so, there’s a chance she could surpass multiple MCU heroes, including her idol.

Unlike the Eternals who are powerful cosmic immortals created by science, the Djinn are a race of ancient, mystical beings whose inherent magic abilities make them insanely powerful foes. Depending on what Kamala’s limits are as a ClanDestine, she could become a top-tier MCU hero with enough control over her cosmic energy to rival (or even beat) Captain Marvel. However, some ClanDestines have less benefits from their Djinn heritage, thus making them weaker than some of the stronger members of the family. If that’s the case for Kamala, the MCU can easily keep her at a low power level.

For now, it’s unclear exactly what Marvel has planned for Kamala’s future and just strong it’s willing to let her become. Due to her links to the Clan Destine family and the Djinn as a whole, Ms. Marvel at least has a way of transforming her into a cosmic, top-tier powerhouse. If that happens, Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau will have one of the best allies available when the trio unites in The Marvels. Her power level could have a lot to do with why the two decide to team up with her in the first place.
