Starring Rami Malek, Mr. Robot follows the journey of a computer hacker named Elliot that finds himself quickly thrown into a massive conspiracy to take down the company he works in for - with the help of a mysterious man only known as Mr. Robot (played by Christian Slater). As intriguing as the pilot may be, the show has been making far more headway through appearances at the recently concluded Tribeca Film Festival and South by Southwest Film Festival - where it won a coveted audience award for its efforts.
In addition, Christian Slater is a man sorely due for a hit. Most recently, the actor could be seen on the unfortunately cancelled ABC drama Mind Games, which was developed by Lone Star and Awake creator Kyle Killen - who is also sorely due for a hit (in viewer numbers). However, while most of his previous efforts were broadcast dramas that, while ranging from good to great, struggled in the ratings, a USA cable drama produced by Universal means the series will need fewer ratings than the man’s previous work to stay alive.
That same fact will also work out great for the series as well - considering the narrative has the potential to build a loyal following over time. Though, starting out strong wouldn’t be a bad thing as this show’s arguably the best new series of the summer.
Whether or not this trailer sells you on the series – which it totally should – take our word for it that this is one you’re going to want to check out for yourself in June. Along with Suits, on the drama front, USA’s stepping up to the plate with some serious zingers in its pocket - that could land a solid one-two punch from the network very soon.
Mr. Robot premieres Wednesday, June 24th at 10/9c on USA.
