‘Iron Sky’ Trailer & Poster: Nazi Space Invaders vs. President Palin

Finnish director Timo Vuorensola’s Iron Sky has been trying to get off the ground for years now, and that long road through development is almost at an end. Today we have a new Iron Sky official trailer and poster to share, and all things considered, the film still looks like a ton of fun.

If you haven’t heard of it before, Iron Sky is a sci-fi comedy that takes an alternate take on history, in which the Nazi’s launched spaceships from a secret Antarctic base towards the end of WWII, in order to hide out on the dark side of the Moon. While on their lunar retreat, the Nazi faction builds a fleet of ships for their eventual invasion of Earth – an invasion that comes to fruition in the futuristic setting of 2018.

‘The Bourne Legacy’ Trailer: A New Unstoppable Killing Machine

There’s been some confusion surrounding The Bourne Legacy, which is neither a direct continuation of the storyline from previous Bourne movies, nor a reboot of the franchise. Instead, it’s a semi-spinoff that revolves around a different “programmed” Treadstone assassin – as played by Hawkeye from The Avengers (a.k.a. Oscar-nominee Jeremy Renner).

Bourne film series screenwriter Tony Gilroy is juggling both writing and directing duties on Bourne Legacy. His involvement with the new chapter in this popular action-thriller franchise – combined with the film’s respectable cast (more on that in a moment) – was enough to land this not-a-reboot installment a spot on our Most Anticipated Movies of 2012 list.

‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ French Trailer

The trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation surprised a lot of people with its more grounded and gritty take on the G.I. Joe universe. Director Jon M. Chu is also stacking the cast with some celebrated action stars like Bruce Willis and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, in order to help lure the average moviegoer back toward this franchise – which admittedly had something of a rocky start.

Today we have a new French trailer for G.I. Joe 2. It’s pretty much an echo of the U.S. trailer, except with a few more shots of vehicles, heroes and villains doing battle, and a nice little shoutout to Cobra Commander’s revamped costume.

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Trailer: An Epic Untold Story

Of all the upcoming reboots and remakes on the slate for 2012, The Amazing Spider-Man is probably one of the most debated.

The film is a complete re-imagining of the Spider-Man film universe – one that carries heavy traces of the more modern Spider-Man mythos (as featured in Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man comic books), rather than the classic Spider-Man comics that were the basis of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movie trilogy early in the new millennium.

The first Amazing Spider-Man trailer left the fanbase severely divided. Some were intrigued by the seemingly darker and more modern take on NYC teenager Peter Parker’s transformation into an arachnid-powered superhero; others thought that star Andrew Garfield was offering a more “Emo” take on Peter P., and that the differences in tone, costume, and the details of Spider-Man’s origin story ...

‘Act of Valor’ Super Bowl Promo Features Real SEALs At Work

Relativity Media is wisely taking advantage of Super Bowl XLVI to drum up interest for the fast-approaching release of Act of Valor – a film project two years in the making, due to the limited availability of its central cast, which is composed primarily of real active-duty Navy SEALs playing… well, themselves.

Everything from the acting crew featuring actual military personnel, to the use of live ammunition during combat sequences – and directors Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh utilizing mobile Canon 5D Mark II cameras, in order to literally get in the middle of the action – is meant to make Act of Valor a largely accurate portrayal of SEAL operation techniques (not to mention, a high-octane viewing experience).

‘Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax’ Super Bowl Trailer

Previous trailers for Illumination Entertainment’s 3D animated treatment of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax have focused on selling the film as a brightly colorful flick with a child-friendly sense of humor, but also one that retains the themes of the good “doctor’s” original illustrated environmental parable.

Buzz surrounding Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is pretty positive for that reason, in combination with the news that the minds behind the popular feature-length CGI version of Horton Hears a Who! are likewise giving cinematic life to Seuss’ eponymous speaker-for-the-trees. The new Super Bowl XLVI TV promo for the film should only further improve its image as a quality piece of entertainment for the whole family.

Extended ‘John Carter’ Super Bowl Commercial [Updated]

Andrew Stanton had a difficult task adapting Edgar Rice Burroughs “A Princess of Mars” into a live-action film, balancing the maintaining of source material with the need to make an accessible film for Disney that casual moviegoers can get behind. The special effects affair is led by MVP Taylor Kitsch (also featured prominent in the Battleship Super Bowl commercial) and Lynn Collins, both of whom starred in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

‘The Avengers’ Super Bowl Commercial [Extended Version]

We are a day short of three months until The Avengers opens in theaters, giving fans what they’ve been anticipating since The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man proved Marvel Studios could deliver big-budget, quality epics on their own. For casual moviegoers, there’s not been much to go on thus far, with Marvel having released only one version of The Avengers trailer, a trailer which revealed very little about the film’s story other than the fact it involves all of Marvel Studios’ characters who’ve had their own movie already.

That changes today with Marvel purchasing one of the extremely expensive time slots during the Super Bowl to showcase The Avengers to the world with brand new footage. It paid off with Iron Man back in 2008, will it work again for The Avengers?

‘Battleship’ Super Bowl Trailer is All About The Alien Invasion

Last summer saw the first full trailer for Peter Berg’s unique take on Battleship, showcasing how the classic Hasbro board game would play out in live-action if one of two opposing naval fleets were replaced by alien invaders and all of the ships were loaded with good-looking people. The second Battleship trailer was more of the same and for those looking for eye candy and action, it mostly delivered.

Reaction was mixed to our early looks at Battleship with all footage demonstrating a clear case of style over substance with a heavy use of Transformers-esque visuals and sound effects, intertwined with laughable character moments. Can Universal Pictures swing some positive buzz with their most important marketing push yet, a TV spot during Super Bowl XLVI?

‘Hunger Games’ Super Bowl Trailer: Katniss Everdeen’s Journey

Lionsgate has been keen on not revealing too much in the trailers for its adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ ultra-popular novel, The Hunger Games. Promos for the film have focused on introducing its protagonist, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and building up anticipation for the titular event – rather than actually showing more than brief glimpses of the carnage and life-or-death battles that transpire thereafter.

That is also the case with the third theatrical trailer for The Hunger Games, which is now online – and which – even more so than the previous promos – highlights the nature of Katniss’ plight as she readies herself for (literally) a fight for her life and everything she holds dear.

One of the big question marks on the 2012 slate of films is G.I. Joe Retaliation, the part-sequel, part-reboot, of the G.I. Joe movie franchise, which has been given an (almost) all-new cast of action stars, and a new director in the form of Jon M. Chu (Step Up 2 &3).

That choice of director and a lackluster first installment had many movie fans feeling certain that G.I. Joe 2 wasn’t going to be any better than its predecessor – that is, until an impressive trailer for Retaliation changed the course of popular opinion into one of guarded optimism.

Rodrigo Cortés made a splash at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival with his single-setting thriller, Buried. He returned to the scene of the crime in 2012 with Red Lights, a thriller about a pair of hardcore rationalists who investigate paranormal activities, with the intention of proving their fraudulence – but, who may have found their match in the form of a famous blind psychic with abilities that even they cannot seem to explain.

The cast of Red Lights includes dramatic heavyweights Cillian Murphy and Sigourney Weaver as that crusading scientist duo, along with excellent acting talent like Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene) and Toby Jones (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) in supporting roles – and also Robert De Niro as the aforementioned psychic, Simon Silver.

Japanese director Takashi Shimizu is probably best known to casual movie goers as the director of The Grudge and its sequel, and he’ll be once again exploring the wrath of the supernatural in 7500.

The trailer for the film attempts to give us all one more reason to hate airline travel, as ghosts now seem to travel in first-class style (coach only when they have to).

‘Cold Light of Day’ Trailer: Henry Cavill Has Deadly Daddy Issues

Summit Entertainment’s The Cold Light of Day reads as being just another average entry in the mystery-thriller genre – with a slight Hitchockian twist, involving a vacationing young man’s family falling into danger due to the secret history of his otherwise seemingly-benign father.

That is, at least, before you learn that the film features Immortals star and the new Superman in Man of Steel (Henry Cavill), along with longtime fan-favorite acting veterans such as Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver – as the movie’s shrewd anti-hero and calculating villainess, respectively. In that regard, The Cold Light of Day suddenly becomes a film worth your attention.

Fan-Made ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Opening Credits: Bane’s Master Plan

Chris Nolan’s Batman movies have always inspired a huge amount of fan art - whether it be posters or images or mashup videos, and The Dark Knight Rises has been no exception.

However, it’s rare that we see a fan-made Bat-vid that uses original footage – as opposed to, say, a mashup of clips from the films. Today we happen to have one of those rare birds, in the form of an opening credit sequence that can probably best be described as the Batman version of those iconic opening credits from David Fincher’s Se7en.

‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’ Trailer #2: Adventure & 3D Galore

Dwayne “I’m still The Rock” Johnson is the new flavor of Brendan Fraser in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island - but aside from that casting change and the difference in setting, this sequel looks pretty much identical to the original 2008 Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D movie adaptation (in ways both good and not-so-good).

The first Journey flick was a PG-Rated adventure film that used lots of in-your-face 3D trickery and (charmingly?) recognizable green screen effects to make exotic locals and fantastical creatures seem all the more friendly – and, thus, less likely to send younger viewers running away in terror. Journey 2 is clearly coming from a similar place and using an identical set of storytelling tools (for better or for worse).

‘Lockout’ Trailer: Guy Pearce Breaks Into Space Jail

One sci-fi/action film that seems to be building buzz (and looks to have a bit of promise as well) is Lockout, a film that has been through so many title changes that it’s hard to keep up. Well, whether you though it was called MS One: Maximum Security or Escape From MS One or Lock-Out (with that awkward hyphen thrown in the middle), the new trailer for the film continues to paint it as the type of B-movie sci-fi actioner that many moviegoers enjoy.

Guy Pearce stars in the film as a man wrongly convicted of conspiracy and espionage, who is offered his freedom in exchange for a big task: break into an orbital prison that has been overrun by inmates, in order to rescue the president’s daughter (Maggie Grace). That premise ...

‘Mirror Mirror’ International Trailer & Featurette: Kid-Friendly Fairy Tale [Updated]

The Cell and Immortals helmer Tarsem Singh is abandoning his preference for darker storytelling with the upcoming Mirror Mirror, a re-imagining of the Snow White fairy tale that offers a visually-splendid rendition of the classic Brothers Grimm story – but also one which appears to be so comically lightweight and brightly colored, it’s the cinematic equivalent of cotton candy.

Reactions to the official Mirror Mirror trailer were by and large negative, thanks in part to misled expectations concerning what sort of fairy tale film Singh would deliver – and, also because everything from Julia Robert’s hammy performance as an aging ~~wicked~~ neurotic queen to dwarfs popping bad puns like “Snow way!” seem… well, a bit too goofy for anyone but the youngest of moviegoers to enjoy.

‘Unicorn City’ Trailer: ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ Style Comedy With RPGers

Hardcore role-playing gamers are, by their very nature, a colorful and eccentric lot – be they part of the crowd that roll die or the folks who actually don faux armor and “battle” one another in the real world. It makes all the more sense that such devoted (geeky) hobbyists should lend themselves naturally to the sort of ultra-low-budget, quirky indie comedy in the vein of the 2004 cult hit – and its animated TV show spinoff – Napoleon Dynamite.

That’s exactly the case with Unicorn City, an upcoming indie project that (like actor Jon Heder’s breakout flick) is in part the handiwork of small-time Utah-based filmmakers.
