Thanks to the folks at Latino Review and Coming Soon, we now have the new posters for this summer’s animated sequel Shrek Forever After and the latest Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean films) effects extravaganza, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, for you to check out.

First we have what looks to be the final poster for Shrek Forever After, the fourth (and supposedly last) Shrek film, which finds the famous Ogre (voiced by Mike Meyers) trapped in an alternate reality after he makes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin that — shockingly — doesn’t go the way he planned.

Okay — can Dreamworks please just stick with one title already?  It’s either Shrek Forever After 3D or Shrek: The Final Chapter 3D.  Of course, they could just call it Shrek: Check Out The Same Jokes You’ve Seen Three Times Already But Now In 3D but that lacks the sort of creativity they’re going for, I suppose. 😉

Next, we have a new poster for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, the latest Disney live-action film from director Jon Turteltaub and star Nicolas Cage (the two previously worked together on the National Treasure movies).

Here, Cage plays Balthazar Blake, a — you guessed it — sorcerer who recruits and trains an average guy from New York (Jay Baruchel, star of She’s Out Of My League) in the ways of magic in order to help him defeat his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina, a.k.a. Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2).

Truth be told, the design of this poster is actually quite elegant.  I like the detail of Cage’s illustrated face, the mystical blue energy that engulfs him, and the (admittedly) cool dragon ring he’s sporting.

That’s not to say I’m expecting too much from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice – but, hey, the National Treasure movies were good fun, right?  And who isn’t amused by the thought of Cage wearing yet another silly toupee while he prances about on-screen pretending to have mystical powers?

Shrek Forever After (or whatever it’s called) hits regular and 3D theaters on May 21, 2010 with The Sorcerer’s Apprentice due out later this year on July 16.

  1. I hate it that The Sorcerer's Apprentice is released the same day as Inception. Maybe the very different audiences they'll draw won't cancel each other out.

  2. Wow, that Sorcerer's Apprentice poster is actually really good. Unfortunately the movie won't be so….. On the other hand, I think DreamWorks should really stop doing sequels. 'How To Train Your Dragon' was awesome even though it featured some of the same old jokes they've recycled over and over. That's the difference between Pixar and DreamWorks. DreamWorks makes sequels for money. Pixar makes sequels because they do have more to show in terms of story depth. Oh and “Shrek: Check Out The Same Jokes You’ve Seen Three Times Already But Now In 3D”? Lol, that made me laugh hard Sandy!! :)

  3. They should just completely give up on Shrek and leave it alone. The series started over 8 years ago. The people who remembers Shrek are probably to old to be really interested in Shrek

  4. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is quite good.
I like the use of the shadow smoke thing.
