Poster Friday Resident Evil 4 Piranha 3D Saw 3D and more Poster Friday: Resident Evil 4, Piranha 3D, Saw 3D & More!

It’s time again for us to round up all those movie posters that have hit The Web recently. This Friday’s round-up includes posters for some of the most highly anticipated and discussed movies on the horizon:

Resident Evil: Afterlife, Piranha 3D, Saw 3D, Legend of the Guardians, Buried, MonstersThe Town, The Last Exorcism, Due Date, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn and Yogi Bear (okay maybe that last one isn’t that anticipated…).

We also have a limited edition art poster for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which opens today, and a poster for the re-release of Avatar.

So let’s get to it, shall we?

First up we have a bunch of posters and banners for Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth installment in the successful video game zombie franchise. We got a quick look at the first one below a few days in the weekly Movie News Wrap Up but we thought we’d showcase more of the set here.

The ads for the film haven’t shied away from letting us know that it’s in 3D, with the trailers in particular shoving that fact in your face (forgive me for the pun). Nonetheless, I think the film looks like harmless fun, albeit one that I’ll forget the second I walk out of the theater.

Take a look at a selection of the Resident Evil 4 posters below:

.

You can take a look at the rest of the posters over at Ultimate-Resident Evil.

Resident Evil: Afterlife opens in 3D and regular theaters on September 10th, 2010.

Moving on we have a domestic and an international poster for the insanely over-the-top Piranha 3D. This is one of those films that is cheesy and ridiculous – but that’s definitely part of the appeal. Seeing the likes of Richard Dreyfuss and Christopher Lloyd in there only adds to B-movie goodness. I’m expecting to have a lot of fun with this one.

Check out the two new posters below:

Next up we have a rather cool motion poster for Saw 3D, the seventh and possibly last installment in the inexplicably popular and long-running torture-porn horror series.

[SPOILER ALERT!] Despite Jigsaw having been killed in Saw III, Saw 3D continues on with the twisted genius’ effort to teach people a lesson for the bad things they’ve done in their life. Blah blah blah – does the plot really matter? Fans of the series just want to see as much blood as possible, topped off with a twist at the end. I’m sure the seventh Saw movie will be no different, other than the fact that it’s in 3D.

Here’s is latest heart-pounding motion poster and one of the Jigsaw (pun intended):

If nothing else the Saw series has given us some of the most inventive posters in recent memory. I think I may enjoy looking at the posters more than I do watching the actual movies! icon razz Poster Friday: Resident Evil 4, Piranha 3D, Saw 3D & More!

After changing dates to avoid competition from Paranormal Activity 2, Saw 3D now opens in theaters on October 29th, 2010.

Next we have a new UK quad poster for Legend of the Guardians, the upcoming fantasy-adventure film from director Zack Snyder (Sucker Punch). I’m looking forward to this one for the amazing visuals alone, but I have to admit those owls still creep me out. It’s a strange film for Snyder to have done but as his past work shows, he’s diverse in the projects he chooses.

Take a look at the new Legend of the Guardians poster:

A new poster has been released for Due Date, the new comedy starring Robert Downey Jr. and Zack Galifianakis which is directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover). When I heard about those two actors starring opposite one another I have to admit I was dubious that it would work. But the teaser trailer put all my worries to rest as I thought they had great comedic chemistry. I personally think this movie looks hilarious.

Check out the new poster below which, as you’ll see, is Photoshopped to no end:

Due Date arrives in theaters on November 5th, 2010.

Moving on we have a striking new poster for The Town, the second film from actor-turned-director Ben Affleck. Affleck’s first film, Gone Baby Gone, was an impressive first effort, gripping and emotional in equal lengths. Judging by the first trailer, The Town looks like it’ll prove Gone Baby Gone wasn’t just a fluke for Affleck, and that he may have been spending most of his career on the wrong side of the camera.

Here’s the new poster:

Continue to the last of the roundup…

Next we’ve got a bleak yet visually arresting poster for Monsters, a new sci-fi film that’s been described accurately by some as this year’s District 9. I had a chance to see the film at the 2010 Edinburgh International Film Festival and it’s definitely one to check out. It’s not as fantastic as District 9 was (not even close) and I had more problems with it than most, but nonetheless, it’s worth seeing for its shrewd mix of sci-fi, social commentary and compelling road-movie romance.

Take a look at the Monsters poster below:

There’s a new poster that’s recently hit the net for The Last Exorcism, a new documentary-style horror film about a Reverend who has made his money exploiting desperate people who pay him to perform exorcisms. However, when he decides to bring a camera crew along with him to film his last exorcism at a remote farm, “it is soon clear that nothing could have prepared him for the true evil he encounters there.”

The first trailer was pretty effective but I’m not completely sold on this film just yet. But the latest poster is creepy in its own right:

Does the fact that Eli Roth is producing the film make you more interested in it that you otherwise would have been? I’m not a fan of Roth as a director (Hostel 1 & 2 and Cabin Fever are all awful in my opinion) but I have to admit that him producing this did catch my attention.

The Last Exorcism is released in theaters on August 27th, 2010.

Next up we have another poster for Buried, the upcoming thriller starring Ryan Reynolds as a contractor in Iraq who gets buried alive and only has a cell phone and a cigarette lighter to keep him company.

The idea of seeing someone literally buried alive is something we’ve seen played out in films like Kill Bill Vol. 2 and Buried Alive (and in the Quentin Tarantino-directed episode of CSI entitled “Grave Danger”) but I don’t think we’ve seen a whole movie set entirely in a coffin (correct me if I’m wrong there). I’m very curious to see if and how they make it work.

Check out the latest poster for Buried, which is very similar to previous posters for the movie:

Next we have an early look at a poster for The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, the Steven-Spielberg directed 3D motion-capture adaptation of the classic adventurer character. Unfortunately, there’s only a small version of the poster available for the time being but it’s interesting to see that they’ve utilized the original artwork as opposed to an image from the movie. Perhaps there’s nothing suitable ready yet?

Here’s the poster (again, we apologize for the small size – that’s what he said!):

Tintin early poster Poster Friday: Resident Evil 4, Piranha 3D, Saw 3D & More!

I’ll be interested to see how Tintin performs in the U.S. The character is popular in over 50 different countries (particularly in Europe) but the States is one market that never truly embraced him. Having said that, plenty of blockbusters based on existing material get released in the U.S. every year and they still manage to make tons of money. We’ll just have to wait and see with Tintin.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn opens on December 23rd, 2011.

I’m so excited (sarcasm alert!) to present the next poster, which is for Yogi Bear, the 3D animated version of the old cartoon series. The voices of Yogi and Boo-Boo are provided by Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake (I know, I know…).

I really hope that the people responsible for the marketing of the film realize how cheesy and cringe-worthy these taglines are. You’ll know what I mean when you see the latest poster:

Next we have a poster for the upcoming re-release of Avatar, the top-grossing movie of all time (you may have heard of it at one point or another). Nothing really new to see from the poster, but it doesn’t really need to give us anything fresh – those wanting to relive the amazing experience of seeing the film in theaters will see it again regardless.

Having said that, audiences can look forward to eight minutes of never-before-seen footage.

Check the poster out below:

And finally, we have a little bonus poster for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, done in a pop-art style by the folks over at Mondo Tees.

Edgar Wright’s first film without comedy partners Simon Pegg and Nick Frost has been  receiving rave reviews pretty much across the board, although Screen Rant head honcho Vic Holtreman feels it’s not appealing to the over 40 crowd.

Phew! That’s it for our latest poster round-up – which was your favorite? Personally I love the Resident Evil 4 one featuring the huge axe and the Scott Pilgrim pop-art poster. But that’s just me icon smile Poster Friday: Resident Evil 4, Piranha 3D, Saw 3D & More! .

  1. I love that first Piranha 3D poster. Gives off a very Jaws vibe, but still an homage to the poster for Dante’s version back in the 70s.

The international poster is even cooler. More of a throwback. Either way, I know where I’ll be August 20th!

    • Yeah, I think that’s very much what they were going for with the Jaws-vibe. I think it’s smart for them to make the comparison – will Piranha 3D revive people’s fears of “going in the water” as Jaws did in the ’70s?

I have to wonder, though, if they needed to get permission to utilize that imagery. That original Jaws poster is one of the most iconic of all time.

  2. Wow! These are some pretty great posters! Definitely like the Piranha 3d poster and the Resident Evil one with the black and white contrast is really awesome too!

  3. wow those really look cheesy. how much more can hollywood mess up? give us some better qaulity films with great stories, acting, and effects. and remake the resident evils like the first game and make it actually scary not over the top action lame @$$e$.

  4. Resident Evil 4 are really running with the Matrix look

  5. Dan Akroyd gets a tab.

  6. Wow! Those are the creepiest freakin’ nuns ever!!!

The Saw VII posters look really cool though. (I call it “Saw VII” because I think it’s very dumb to have it shown in 3D)
