  1. Sweet! Early podcast.

  2. Yay! Early podcast! Saturday is saved! Thanks guys!

  3. Hawkeye’s sequence sounds AWESOME. Why Renner? Why!??

  4. This episode cuts off abruptly after 12 minutes on Stitcher. Thankful I can get the whole thing here, but just thought you should know.

    • Weird. I’ll look into it. I don’t think there’s anything we can do on our end for that – since they pull the podcast from our feed and upload to their service. Appreciate the heads-up though.

  5. I think Dominion’s alright. It takes place 25 years after the movie focusing on the grown up baby named Alex, the chosen one. I like the new actors for Gabriel and Michael and the world they’ve established is interesting especially with the human and angel alliances and the disputes between Michael and Gabriel. I like it but then again, I liked Legion so…

  6. Strange that the Captain America Blu-ray comes out so late in the US. I already have it for two weeks now (release was on August 14 in Germany). Sure it also was released in theaters a week later in the US, but still… one week isn’t three and a half weeks.

I love Underworld! Good story, good practical effects and Kate Beckinsale is awesome as Selene. And Kofi is totally right about the unlikeliness of Beckinsale and Sheen in this kind of movie. Just look at Sheen and his other roles (Tony Blair etc.) or his appearances on late night shows. I almost can’t believe that he played that intense badass Lucian. That’s acting for you! I really hope they aren’t going to make the reboot crazier. That would include putting Frankenstein in there. Please don’t!

Priest wasn’t that bad, really. It was just missing a satisfying third act, the showdown with the vampire queen. Unfortunately they decided to end the movie after 70 minutes and to hold off on the vampire queen for a sequel that never was going to happen. Legion was much worse than Priest.

Guardians of the Galaxy is so amazing and the soundtrack too (both the score and the songs). I love that flick!

Godzilla was awesome! Second best movie of the year. And that atomic breath scene? What a goosebump-inducing Crowning Moment of Awesome! That I loved it so much is even more remarkable when you consider that I didn’t even want to have the atomic breath in the movie, because it was so goofy in the Japanese movies.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was indeed a big disappointment. So much worse than the first one. A messy two hour long trailer for another sequel with a super-goofy villain that had his own dubstep lyrics, Lois Lane style. *facepalm* And the action sucked, to be honest.

  7. Cap vs Winter Soldier was still my favorite fight. Godzilla breath though was friggin amazing.

  8. I love BBT and I love Louie.
I love comedies that are silly/political/social,because they make me LOL.
    I don’t like cerebral comedies:It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,etc.

  9. Priest wasnt that baaaaaaaad? certainly better than legion.
    -
Best fight is far from godzilla, best moment probably but not best fight.
The gun fight in Dawn of the P/Apes way better or Ceasar vs Koba.
    -
Funniest movie was 22 Jump street, Guardians was okay in humor but never got more than a “ha” from me.
    -
Cant believe theres no song/soundtrack award-
Tmnt for original song, Guardians for soundtrack.
    -
I think people are overrating Snowpiecer, it wasnt “amazing”.
    -
You forgot how to Train Your Dragon 2 because it was weak, weak sequel bologna.
BOOOOOOO….let down of the summer. Course I had no hopes for spiderman.

    • “Tmnt for original song”

      Seriously?!

      • You about to get shell shocked.

        • I find amazing that rappers can’t even stop bragging about cars, cash and Rolexes in their lyrics when they make a song about sewer-dwelling ninja turtles. Talk about limited range.

          • Theyre just trying to get that cheddar, like the shredder.

  10. One last time:

MOST undeservingly hated movie of the summer: Amazing Spiderman 2.
DID we watch the same movie? Even if you hate spiderman, this movie no doubt sucked like some critics have made it out to be.. I do not understand

MOST undeservedly(is this even a word?) sucked at the BO….
    Edge of Tomorrow(Enough said)

Most overrated movie of the Summer of 2014
    Guardians of the Galaxy.
I enjoyed it and people who I went to watch it loved it. But one of the greatest ?
I mean, come on,… I enjoy exciting action movie with just enough comedy(see Avengers). When they pull s*** like what they did at the end of GoTG, that’s the crap I expect from movies like “scary movie”.. not the ones from who are suppose to protect the galaxy.. Man up and provide the real solution to the serious threat.. I hate it when movie goes out the sissy route..
(This is probably nit picking BUT, is galaxy that easy to protect? Those 5(I am SORRY) look like they are not super soldiers like mighty avengers..(I am sorry.. not even close.. like 1% ?) What are they exactly protecting here? Humor?)
It makes it look like imminent threat coming to earth is a joke.

    • I don’t know. I normally really enjoy Spider-Man (total opposite of hate) and even after re-watching it on Blu-ray, I still think it was underwhelming and disappointing overall. Definitely there are plenty of good moments but we’re not alone in this – as mentioned, the studio itself is now unsure of how to reposition the franchise in its wake.

As for Guardians, we took a lot of flack for our criticisms of it – so we’re not shilling for that movie. But it captured loads of buzz and box office profit. No one is saying it’s a perfect (or the greatest) movie of the summer but it made a major dent in the public consciousness. It’s the movie that really got people back to the theater after an otherwise rough summer at the theaters with a lot of underperformers.

      • Fair enough on Guardians so I will live with it.(perhaps best franchise launch is well deserved title..)

Amazing spiderman 2 I will not agree. Worst sequel? To me, that is saying Amazing spiderman 1 was good movie and Amazing spiderman 2 sucked and did not match the anticipation coming off the first movie. I thought Amazing spiderman 1 sucked(ok first half and snooze time towards the end) and 2 was entertaining.(along with very entertaining second half) Ok, so movie was no Terminator 2 Judgement day but to get this type of (worst sequel?) title? I thought worst sequel should have gone to How to train your dragon 2. First movie was so good and then second movie, they clearly laid an egg.

Perhaps people’s anticipation was very high on amazing spiderman 2 but I thought people put expectation based on previous movie and not based on promise on the movie coming out.
Either way, amazing spiderman 2 do not deserve this title. Disappointing yes, depending on your level of anticipation perhaps. But worst sequel. That sounds so bad and movie was not bad. :-)

But either way, I LOVE talking about this stuff so.. it’s fun!

  11. I just listened to this podcast and man I have to ask you guys really over-hype Cap 2 more than anyone else I know. Honestly thought it was good but guys it wasn’t as good as you say it was. The Villain doesn’t speak, The spy plot falls out once ScarJo goes to the vending machine, and the Falcon was such a weak add it’s not even funny.

I seriously doubt your ability to judge or criticize that movie. I honestly think you were harder on Guardians than you were on Cap 2. Perhaps you’re coming off of Thor 2 and IM3 so a win feels like a great win but it wasn’t. The plot was silly and the whole Argument scene between Cap and Fury was literally 30 seconds. Seriously go back after watching Guardians and rewatch Cap 2. It’s an overrated film.

I know it wasn’t a summer film, and I haven’t seen Apes 2 yet—but Cap 2 is overrated. BY A LONGSHOT. Again I honestly think it’s because of how mediocre and bad Thor 2/IM3 were is the reason you love that movie. Please go back and rewatch that film. It’s laughable with how high you praise this film.

    • I rewatched this (4th time) before doing the interview and I need to point out that you’re in the very small minority on this one, friend. That’s okay, you’re allowed to be – just like others are allowed to love it. Check out the critic and user (especially, user) ratings on every movie site there is that has them and read the comments on the reviews for a better understanding of why this film has 4/5s across the board.

      SPOILERS

Falcon was a fan-fave, and the villains (there’s not just one) have almost half the film’s dialogue. You’re referring to one character out of an entire faction. How much do Sitwell, Rumlow, Pearce, etc. say?

      • Rob and/or Ben: Is this weeks podcast just running a bit late, or did you guys take a (well-deserved) week off?

        • Ben’s a bit sick at the moment. It’ll be up soon though!@

          • Awesome, thanks Anthony.
            Get better soon Ben.

        • What Ant said :)

Luckily there’s no big movie we had to review and it’s more of a cool preview ep so way less time sensitive. Look for it later today though!

          • Rob tell Ben to quit being a pansy and get the podcast up haha

            • But in all seriousness get well soon Mr. Kendrick

          • Rob, if you’re trying to squelch my anticipation, it’s not working, haha.
But yeah, no need to rush it, however that sounds like a great episode. Some of my favorite’s are when you guys deviate and just shoot the bull.
But I’ll be looking for it, I usually keep an episode playing while I’m working from home.
