This weekend the difference between the new releases and Toy Story 3 is like Knight and Day; Lake Bell won’t Scream; will Warner Bros. finally Beat the Devil? Matt Damon buys a Zoo with Cameron Crowe; David Cronenberg gets ready to set the Table; Steven Soderbergh catches Laurence Fishburne for Contagion and Daniel Radcliffe ensures that his career won’t be All Quiet on the Western Front and lots more.

Box Office

Toy Story 3 remained the box office king over the weekend after grossing $59 million on its second weekend. The Tom Hanks voiced film has now brought in a huge $226 million. A final gross of $400 million is all but certain.

Adam Sandler showed that he could still open a movie after the disappointing Funny People. Grown Ups, which also stars Chris Rock and David Spade opened to $41 million. It looks like this will be another $100 million hit for Sandler.

Tom Cruise’s Knight and Day grossed a disappointing $20 million over the weekend. The film has banked just under $28 million since it opened on Wednesday. The action flick and Cruise have been under watchful eyes recently and many people are saying that Cruise’s box office power has evaporated. There’s a chance that Knight and Day might make it to $100 million – but it’ll be a long and slow limp.

The Karate Kid chopped up another $15 million for a grand total of $135 million. Strong legs and good reviews mean that this could be another potent franchise for Sony.

The A-Team upped its cume to $62 million after grossing another $6 million. The big screen adaptation of the 80’s show should finish with a final run of about $75 million. Overseas grosses will have to be strong.

Get Him to the Greek brought in another $3 million for a $54 million total, while Shrek 4 brought its total to $229 million after scoring a smidgen under $3 million.

Prince of Persia also grossed just under $3 million for a $86 million domestic total. Luckily for the filmmakers, international grosses have made it Prince of Persia the top-grossing video game movie of all time.

Killers managed another$2 million and Jonah Hex collapsed by a massive 70%. With just under $9 million grossed in 2 weeks it looks like this is a mega-bomb for Warner Bros. Inception will have to get some big grosses to cover the Megan Fox disaster.

I’m a fan of Crowe’s work – but I couldn’t get into Elizabethtown. It was because of the cast, really. I guess that this will be worth a look.

  1. Justified and The Shield star Walton Goggins is the latest name to join Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford in Cowboys and Aliens.

Well that just sealed the deal for me. I will be seeing this movie.

    • I agree Aknot, this movie is sounding good, can’t wait to see some visuals.

  2. Well wasn’t planning to but now I’m gonna watch cowboys and aliens. After RDJ dropped so did I but Walton is amazingly underrated.

    • walton is great, and yeah youre right that by saying he is amazingly underrated, ive always enjoyed watching him on the shield, and anythng else he does…

  3. Yea and if you watch any of The Shields special features you find out he’s a hardcore method actor. To prepare him self he stays in character all day. If an intense scene was going on the other guys avoided him on set because he couldn’t be around people. I like watching them build the scene between him and Lem where he dropped the grenede still in my opinion the best scene in TV history.

  4. Tough break Cruise. $20 million….disappointing

  5. Cruise spends more then 20mil a year on dinner.

    Don’t feel bad for him.

  6. Well, according to a lot of reviews (Vic’s included), the tanking of Knight and Day had a lot to do with the talentless Diaz who isn’t engaging nor funny. I would have watched it if it wasn’t for her. She’s so damn annoying. Don’t blame it all on Cruise, he’s still a badass action star.

  7. Your killing my buzz Alex. ;-)
