Mr. Popper’s Penguins
There will be obvious comparisons between Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Jim Carrey’s next comedy film Mr. Popper’s Penguins. Carrey plays Tom Popper, whose life is changed when he inherits six penguins. His regular life begins to crumble around him as he devotes much of his time to taking care of the penguins by turning his apartment into a veritable winter wonderland. Carla Gugino (Sucker Punch), Madeline Carroll (Machine Gun Preacher) and Angela Lansbury (Nanny McPhee) all join in on the fun for Mr. Popper’s Penguins.
Mr. Popper’s Penguins waddles into theaters on June 17th, 2011.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) and Bruce Willis (Red) have been attached to the sci-fi film Looper since early last year and just recently Primer director Shane Carruth join the project. Actors Paul Dano (Cowboys & Aliens) and Jeff Daniels (Paper Man), as well as actress Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly) have also joined the cast. Looper recently got a synopsis, which paints a picture of intrigue:
Looper is a time travel movie, set in a near future where time travel doesn’t exist but will be invented in a few decades. It’s pretty dark in tone, much different from Bloom, and involves a group of killers (called Loopers) who work for a crime syndicate in the future. Their bosses send their targets hogtied and blindfolded back in time to the Loopers, and their job is to simply shoot them in the head and dispose of the body. So the target vanishes from the future and the Loopers dispose of a corpse that doesn’t technically exist, a very clean system. Complications set in from there.

Even though the pictures below of Amber Heard (Drive Angry 3D) and Jared Harris (Sherlock Holmes 2) aren’t very scary or very forthcoming with details regarding the story for The Ward, the trailer for the film is more than enough to get horror and John Carpenter fans excited. A girl (Heard) is institutionalized to help her through her mental problems, but once there she and the other girls are terrorized by a ghost. The premise for The Ward isn’t totally original but hopefully that can be overcome by a solid story.

Director Craig Brewer tweeted this photo recently and in it audiences can see a picture of Dennis Quaid as the Reverend Shaw Moore in the upcoming remake of Footloose. Newcomer dancer Kenny Wormald will portray the young rebellious teen, Ren MacCormack, who only wants to dance. Those dreams are soon squashed as the legalistic Reverend Shaw decides his dancing is not appropriate for his religious Midwestern town. Footloose has been filming for weeks and releases in theaters this fall, but so far this is the only image associated with the project. They’re going to need a lot more than a picture of Brewer’s cat and editing screen to get people excited about this film.
Footloose quick steps into theaters on October 14th, 2011.
