The wait is over: Director Kevin Tancharoen is back with the second season of his acclaimed web series, Mortal Kombat: Legacy!

As we saw in the trailers for Mortal Kombat: Legacy II, this new installment will follow characters like Liu Kang (Brian Tee) and Kung Lao (Mark Dacascos) - both of whom appear in this premiere - as they and others join  Raiden (David Lee McInnis taking over the role) to battle  forces from the dark realm of Outworld, led by evil sorcerer Shang Tsung (original Mortal Kombat movie star, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa).

This first episode is only a tease, really, but it nonetheless evidences several important things that will carry over into the rest of the season:

  1. The production values are definitely improved, with much of the series having an almost soap-opera look to them, with some creative visual flare.
  2. The action direction is also much improved, with episode 1 showcasing some pretty bone-crunching martial arts choreography.
  3. There is a much more serialized storyline happening this time around, which should do well to keep viewers invested (as opposed to the pick and choose character story format of season 1.

The other good thing about Mortal Kombat: Legacy II is that Tancharoen and Co. have wisely decided to tale a cue from Netflix and release the entire season online simultaneously, instead of trying for an episode-of-the-week format. You can get your binge-view on by clicking the Image below.

For Mortal Kombat fans, Legacy II looks to be an even more polished and fully-realized version of the game mythos. There are still a few rough edges noticeable in the seasonal preview included at the end of episode 1 (Kitana and Mileena, looking at you two) - but overall, this series is good enough to provide future incentive for studios to allow enterprising directors to adapt their IPs into inspired Web series or short films.

Tancharoen is so enthused about the possibilities, he's already talking about making a Power Rangers fan-film after this...
