The Web series Mortal Kombat Legacy achieved moderate success during its run in 2011; the premiere episode sits at 18 million views, with the following eight episodes of season 1 averaging out at about 5 million views each (give or take). More importantly, director Kevin Tancharoen managed to reintroduce fans to a live-action Mortal Kombat universe in a way that breathed new life into the cinematic side of the franchise – resulting in a new Mortal Kombat movie on the horizon.
With Mortal Kombat Legacy season 2, Tancharoen and co. appear to be going bigger and bolder – but is it better? Watch the trailer above and judge for yourself.

The Mortal Kombat Legacy continues in Season 2 as Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kenshi, and Ermac join the ranks. The rivalries and histories of these fierce warriors will unfold as Raiden and his recruits clash against the dark forces of Outworld. The epic battle for Earthrealm has finally begun.
It appears that – despite some flashback segments – season 2 of Legacy will be a more serialized storyline as opposed to the more episodic origin tale format of season 1. Those who kept up with season 1 will also probably notice that some of the returning characters – Raiden, Mileena, Kurtis Stryker, Johnny Cage - have been recast; though star Ian Anthony Dale is back as Scorpion, which is a good thing in our book.
For those who are TRUE film buffs: Yup, that’s Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa reprising his role as Shang Tsung from the original Mortal Kombat movie (1995), and Starship Troopers star Casper Van Dien taking over the role of Johnny Cage from Legacy season 1 actor, Matt Mullins.

Tancharoen with ‘Mortal Kombat Legacy’ Season 2 Cast
For fans who felt the more grounded marital arts action of season 1 was underwhelming, it looks like season 2 has upped the ante on the “kombat” factor, with more brutality (see: Stryker’s face-beating rampage) and “powers” involved (Sub-Zero’s ice blast, Scorpion’s rope-spear, etc).
But will the more streamlined storytelling approach be as creative and interesting as season 1 was, with episodes that were animated (Mileena vs. Kitana); offered interesting narratives (Raiden’s time in a mental ward); or inspired visual composition (Scorpion’s origin story)? We’ll soon find out.

For the budget, I’d say that the trailer was “just alright” for me. Now, can we get a brother up in the house? Where’s Jax?
Right! And why is Kensi white? He is always black in the games!
Kenshi is the blind swordsman. I don’t ever remember him being black.
God, I’m so pumped. I don’t think Jax and Sonya are returning this season, but they will be in the movie, I’m sure. YES!!!

The trailer definitely makes this upcoming season look better than the fist! Only problem i have with this is Liu Kang looks like a drunk with a hoodie, and Im not really diggin Scorpions mask. They shouldve gone with someone else as Shang tsung. But overall it looks good. And Sub-Zero Looks like a total BADASS!!

Spot on. He and Christopher Lambert were the only characters cast correctly in that first film. They took on the roles much better than any other actor in the film series. It’s cool to see the dude from Iron Chef and Hawaii 5-0 play a martial arts role again by taking on the role of Kung Lao.
Christopher Lambert had no business being Raiden
Wrong. Lambert is Connor Mcloud of the clan Mcloud’s born in the highlands of Scotland. The quickening is clearly some kind of magic electricity of immortality. He was perfectly cast as Raiden in the first Mortal Kombat. It’s a kind of magic. There can be only one. Yeahhp.
And Raiden was once voiced by the Kurgan, Clancy Brown, too.
Raiden was horribly written in Legacy, which certainly didn’t help Lambert perform any better. That character really should be retconned.

always liked mortal kombat. The 1995 movie I did not like however. Frankly, I had no idea they actually had a youtube version of MK, so thank you, Kofi for this article. Scorpion was and is still my favorite character. With that said, I would like to see Jade in this series. If they do decide to make a movie out of MK, I would like them to make it dark and serious. Keep out the comedy.

I disagree. The original 1995 Mortal Kombat movie was great. How could you go wrong with that theme song!? “Moooorrrrtal Kombaaaat”
it was definitely cheesy and cliched, but a fun time at the movies.
Trevor Goddard was the best thing about it although I did love the movie as a whole. Goro was pretty well done too.

The second one, however…(cringe).
I do. It’s full title was Mortal Kombat: Konquest. It starred Paolo Montalban as “Kung Lao,” Daniel Bernhardt as “Siro,” Kristanna Loken (yeah, the T-X of Terminator 3)as Taja . Raiden was played by Jeffrey Meek, the guy who played a ninja-trained assassin named Jonathan Raven in the TV series “Raven.” Meek actually played two roles here, as he also played Shao Kahn but you wouldn’t really notice it since Shao Kahn wore a mask and his voice was “tweaked” to make it sound “bigger.”
Man, I loved watching “Konquest.” Too bad it only lasted one season and it wasn’t because people didn’t watch it. It was actually quite popular but the production cost grew higher than what the producers expected so they just decided to cancel it.

It sucks they cancelled it. The fight choreography there far surpassed any of the stuff we saw in Xena and other shows. Plus the way the show ended was way too depressing. It’s one show that badly needed a second season and continuation.
i really don’t think 10 episodes will be enough to explain why lui kang is a bad guy, ermac looks like reptile, why johnny isn’t up himself and why half the cast are a bunch of amateur martial artists (at best)… they better have bought back michael jai, b/c he was the one decent actor/fighter in series 1 >:(
In an interview with Tancharoen they asked him the main differences in shooting longer episodes vs the 9-10min episodes of season 1. I haven’t seen an article on it but that question has my hopes up that they made the episodes longer woo hoo character interaction!

yea the first johnny cage actor (matt mullins) fit the role (atleast thats what’s i think. they should have brought back all the actors from season 1, that is 1 mistake that they did….so far..

Like others have said, it would be nice to have the same cast. Still looking forward to it though. After the terrible sequel to the first Mortal Kombat movie(which itself was already kinda terrible), I’d been waiting for MK live action that was at least decent. This web series gave me faith that MK could be done well if the right person or people were behind it. Again, lookin forward to Season 2 and hope it isn’t a let down.

If anyone has ever seen the movie ” Big Trouble in Little China (1986) with Kurt Russell. There was a character called lightning that had they used the effects from that movie for Raiden, that alone wouldve helped Mortal Kombat be a little better, also, the trailer for the game for Mortal Komabt 2 was way better than the characters in any of the movies.
Christopher Lambert had no business being Raiden in the first movie, and the clown they used in the second movie was a disgrace to anything presented by Mortal Kombat!!!!
