The words “Harrison Ford” and “comedy” don’t inspire too much faith from movie going audiences these days (I’d disagree, but that’s just me).

Ford’s recent output has left a lot of fans cold (I won’t bother to mention the titles of the films, you know what they are), but his new role in the J.J. Abram’s-produced Morning Glory appears to show a looser, more relaxed Ford.

The veteran actor appears to be relishing this comedic role, which could bode very well for his character in the upcoming Cowboys and Aliens, a sci-fi/western mashup that’s being directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man 2).

Ford stars in Morning Glory alongside  Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton, Jeff Goldblum, and Patrick Wilson. Check out the trailer below:

Morning Glory looks like a pretty decent, old-school battle of the sexes comedy about aging television presenters, with a bit of 21st Century chick-flick tacked on to bolster the box office grosses. That’s not too surprising, considering that the film springs from the pen of The Devil Wears Prada writer Aline Brosh McKenna. But don’t let that bother you too much because (guys), because Glory is directed by Roger Michell, the man who brought us the underrated Changing Lanes (with Ben Affleck) and Enduring Love (with a pre-Bond Daniel Craig). He also helmed Notting Hill, but we won’t hold that against him!

It’s odd for Abrams to be behind a film that doesn’t have an action or science fiction theme, but it does show that he’s willing to expand his horizons and not play it too safe. With a great cast and a pretty decent-looking trailer it looks like Morning Glory might be something to watch for this coming November.

It’s a shame that Morning Glory isn’t just focused on Ford and Keaton – that would be a worthwhile movie. I’m guessing that this film is aimed at a wide-ranging demographic – however, recent Jack Nicholson comedies have shown that there is a market for adult-targeted comedy.

Did you like the trailer? Or do you think Morning Glory is casting its net too wide?

  2. I used to work as a morning show news producer, and I can’t decide if the trailer is all the funnier for me because of that or if it’s giving me some horrifying flashbacks. Might check it out on DVD.

  3. “It’s odd for Abrams to be behind a film that doesn’t have an action or science fiction theme”

He started on Felicity, a show about a girl dealing with life in college.
