Moonrise Kingdom Trailer Moonrise Kingdom Trailer: Wes Andersons Runaway Romance

Wes Anderson fans can rejoice, as the auteur director’s newest film, Moonrise Kingdom, now has a trailer online for your esteemed viewing pleasure.

For those who are not instantly sold by hearing the name ‘Wes Anderson’: Moonrise Kingdom centers around two young kids on the run, but the adult cast is pretty well-stacked in the acting department, featuring stars like Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, and Jason Schwartzman.

Check out the synopsis for Moonrise Kingdom below, followed by the trailer:

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, MOONRISE KINGDOM tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore — and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle. Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman.

Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward play the runaway boy and girl (respectively), and truth be told, they are the more intriguing element of that Moonrise Kingdom trailer – more so than the deadpan adult hijinks that are Anderson’s trademark, at this point.

Personally speaking, something about the chemistry between Gilman and Hayward reminds me of the strangely humorous quasi-romance between Wednesday Addams and Joel Glicker in Addams Family Values. And I loved that movie.

As a confessed non-fan of Anderson, I have to, well, confess that some of his more recent work (Fantastic Mr. Fox and this film, specifically) have been more inviting than his earlier works. Count me onboard…for now.

Moonrise Kingdom will be released in foreign markets starting May 2012; it will come to the U.S. late that same month.

  1. I love Wes Anderson, I’m a huge fan of all of his films. This along with the hobbit and dark knight rises is one of the films i’m looking forward to most this year

  2. Wes Anderson will always amaze me with his style of film making. I cannot wait for this.

  3. Wes Anderson once again proves he is very good at making Wes Andersonny movies

  4. I confused Wes Anderson with Paul W.S. Anderson…I was kind of shocked. The trailer looks interesting but in my opinion is too long and shows a lot of content…
I really need to catch up on WES Andersons stuff, since all his titles are loved by the critics…does anyone have a suggestion for my “first” Anderson-flick?

    • Royal Tenenbaums and or Fantastic Mr. Fox. Both great flicks.

    • I’d say Rushmore is the best one to start with, or Bottle Rocket as that was his first film (and Martin Scorsese’s favourite 90′s film)

  5. Something about Bruce Willis and Bill Murray in the same scenes made me really happy.

  6. Looks like another winner from Anderson, cant wait

  7. Wes Anderson movies are in the same league as Being There and Harold and Maude. You just either get it or you don’t…

  8. Ik Jared :D he used to have really crazy curly hair and funky glasses ^_^ he was cool though

  9. Ahh, Something worth going to the movies for……makes me happy ;o)
