We recently told you that Catherine Hardwicke was off the Twilight sequel as director, and it looks like Summit Entertainment has a new director ready to go for the next film in the series, New Moon. The director is Chris Weitz, who has helmed About a Boy and The Golden Compass, and had a big hand in American Pie.

And not a moment too soon, since the sequel will have to go into production spring 2009 to be released by the planned late 2009/early 2010 date, and the third book may be shot back-to-back. I don’t even know how far along they are on a script, but chances are good Weitz, an accomplished writer, will have a big hand in writing.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of American Pie, but About a Boy was good. I didn’t bother with The Golden Compass, after I saw the first 30 minutes on a plane. And to be honest, until this past summer, I didn’t even really know these books existed until a cover story in Entertainment Weekly.
I don’t know if he’ll do a good job or not, and I think I will actually watch Twilight when it hits DVD. What do you, the fans of the book and first film, think about Weitz as director?

I like the movie i hope the same actors and actress will play in the sequal i hate when sequals don’t have the same actors and actresses it just ruins it. I can’t wait to read the books.
They’re locked in, don’t worry! I know, I know, Terrence Howard is off Iron Man 2, but I’m positive the actors will stay the same in New Moon.

I was not a huge fan of American Pie and never saw About a Boy, but I did like the Golden Compass. Im couriose to see how well Weitz will do with this movie. We all have been saying that Twilight could use a better director but im not sure if he is the best choice.
I actually saw Twilight online and now want to see it in the theatre (I’ve NEVER said that before lol). The movie had potential–but the script of it felt like a butchering of the book which I’m reading. The choice of actors are exceptionally well-picked and I look forward to New Moon. I just hope the script is better. Here’s to hoping Weitz makes New Moon the best in the Twilight series.
It’s a good thing that they have decided to go with a better director, anyone other than Catherine! She totally botched up Twilight with the “time” she had. Some people do an fantastic job with very little time while others do crappy ones with all the time in the world. The actors for HP are more professional than the young adults of Twilight. If it weren’t for RPattz, this movie would be in DVD’s by now. None of the actors had the “work attitude” like the HP actors did. When you look at their interviews, they seemed like they were really tired of promoting Twilight and would rather be doing somehting else. I remember seeing an interview with Kristen, Stephanie Meyer and Rpattz, where Kristen had the the audacity to say in front of Stepehanie Meyer that she is currently working on a role that she has always wanted to do. A month later, it has been rumored that Kristen will be playing Joan Jett (another stupid move, why they keep hiring HS drop out pothead Kristen is besides me). With that being said, they should replace Kristen Stewart as well if they want this to be a blockbuster. Think about it, in 2 years the tweeny teens have moved on and they will not be as lenient with Kristen’s crappy acting. In my opinion, I am so disappointed with this movie and the actors they chose. The first movie are always the best, but I guess it will be the other way around. I also believe that the fans made this to be worth $140m globally not Catherine which is why movie critics gave her a C-…and yes, I saw it 4x as a Stephanie Meyer fan, I’m done w my community service for holidays.
i loved about a boy and the golden compass but i’m also worried because it was so untrue to the book! (the northern lights) but i know he is a good director so i hope he sticks to the book new moon closely!

i enjoyed twilight while i was watching it but when iw as outof the cenima (each time) i kept thinking of all the things they left out and could have done better
i know catherine was passionate about the books but i keep thinking ‘did she read the same books as me?’ bella and edward for instance wern’t nearly around eachother enough and never just ‘talked’ like in the books-i was not given the idea that they would die for eachother (i know this is partly down to acting *cough*kristen*cough*)
but catherine could have done more. she also left out so many of my favourite scenes from the books, in the end theonly thing that kept me in the cinema 5th time round was jackson,ashleey,niki,kellan,peter,elizabeth and charlie(i don’t know who playedhim) i thought they were perfect for the rolls. Rob was good as edward but SERIOUSLY sort yourself out!!

she missed out all their talks, and the blood typing lesson OMJH!! (oh my jasper hale) how did she miss that out! it was one of themost iconic bits in thebook for me -soo romantic!! and anyway i really hope that new moon follows the book better.

kristen was a bad choice but i don’t want them to replase and actor during the sequal i think that would be bad, i wish she was happier in the movie (not bubbly like alice but she’s not meant to have deprssion!) but i suppose that will come in handy in new moon! i am really looking foward to new moon as i hope cris will not make so many key errors and leave out such important bits like catherine did!
