Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the fourth Tom Cruise super spy film and first sequel to drop the number from its title, is currently shooting for its late 2011 release.

The new images feature franchise star Tom Cruise, 48 years young but still in great action hero shape, as well as co-stars Simon Pegg and Paula Patton in cold Vancouver outdoor weather after moving production over to Canada from Dubai.

Ghost Protocol is touted as being the potential start to a new direction (and lead star) for the franchise, with newfound Hollywood A-lister Jeremy Renner joining the cast of M:I4 with the objective of the studio to have him take over the series from Cruise. Along with the powerful addition of Renner, fan-favorite Lost star Josh Holloway and Just Wright’s Paula Patton join the cast which also includes Mission: Impossible familiars Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames.

Simon Pegg’s vehicle is part of one of the operations that Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his elite team go on. Sutton and Cruise are in the back of the van for this particular scene.

Back in October, we also had our first look at Jeremy Renner and Josh Holloway on set when they were shooting in Prague, one of the many international locations the production is taking place. We can only hope that the international flavor and worldwide scope of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol are being utilized for a mind-bending, intelligent thriller similar to the style of the first film with a good balance of action.

J.J. Abrams’ M:I:III was a step in the right direction after the weak second installment and expectations are high for Ghost Protocol to raise the bar if it hopes to spawn a worthy second trilogy of movies. Will Ethan Hunt live through this mission to make room for Renner’s character or will a cliffhanger ending see Cruise in a smaller role for future sequels?

  1. The picture of Simon Pegg is the real highlight here. If he gets underused again, I’ll likely stage a one man protest.

    • Agreed. Pegg is a great comedian and a great actor

    • I’ll sponsor your one man protest. 1 sign and $10/day for lunch, as long as your protest doesn’t span more than 300 minutes… an entire afternoon at most.

    • I have a hard time with this. I hate Cruise. Really hate him. But Pegg is one of my favorites. I might have to see it only for him…

  2. I’m here to join the protest as well.

  3. Pegg out of the lab is a step in the right direction.

  4. I wouldn’t have complained if there were more photos of Paula Patton than her co-stars. Something kind of mysterious about this actress, in my opinion. I expected her to have rose to stardom after her performance in Deja Vu.

  5. I don’t see why Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner can’t both be stars in the sequels.Tom is the franchise.

  6. 3 was rubbish, nonsense balls.

  7. “Protocol” is spelled with an “O” Rob, just a heads up. :)

I’ll be venturing a more solid opinion once the first trailer hits.

    • All mentions of Protocol within the post are spelled correctly, excerpt had a typo :( Fixed!

  8. Hope the movie stills will come out as soon as possible, I don’t know if the studio will push forward the release date since it’s filmed too early but looking forward to this, anyway. Where is Jeremy Renner, the sources said he and Tom Cruise are lead actors in this one so they both share the same screen time, and where is Mickael Nykvist???

  9. Love the logo too:D

  10. I actually think that Cruise is a good actor and his movies especially in the Noughties were of a strong variation and quality. Not too many lead actors were starring in as many impressive films as Minorty Report, The Last Samurai, Collateral and War Of The Worlds. Valkyrie too had many moments of tension depsite the fact you knew how things were going to end

It’s a shame that he’s had to return to this franchise for a fourth time. He has always said in the past how he disliked doing sequels. His star power has waned but it’s only been because of his performances off the screen.

I actually enjoyed MI-2. It was certainly more exciting & stylish than the first and the action was superbly staged. MI-3 was probably the best in the trilogy it just had a bit of a limp ending. The bridge attack was a brilliant action sequence.

It’s nice to see Hollywood maintaining it’s run with awful titles for sequels. First The Dark Knight Rises, then Dark Of The Moon (Transformers) and now Ghost Protocol.. Keep up the good work..

  11. I really like the Mission Impossible movies. I know the second one wasn’t a fan favorite, but I can watch it and be entertained. I’ll be giving this one a look for sure.

I just wonder how they’ll get Ethan Hunt to come out of retirement…
