It’s been several months since we heard that Fox had ordered two high profile series to pilot: Lucifer will star Tom Ellis (Miranda) as the DC/Vertigo version of the titular devil and Minority Report will revisit the world of Steven Spielberg’s 2002 sci-fi thriller some ten years on, focusing on precog Dash (Stark Sands) as he joins a detective (Meagan Good) and attempts to put his predictive powers to good use once again.
On the surface, Lucifer joins the ever-crowded field of comic book/superhero shows, but it and Minority Report have more in common with Fox’s roster of police procedurals. Minority Report is set roughly ten years after the film, with precog Dash finding a way around the shuttering of the Precrime program in order to prevent murders. Lucifer follows the Lord of Hell after he steps away from his throne and winds up assisting the LAPD in punishing criminals.
Given some of the showrunning talent involved – Californication‘s Tom Kapinos wrote and Len Wiseman (Total Recall) directed Lucifer‘s pilot and Max Borenstein (Godzilla) penned Minority Report‘s pilot- these are two major shows on the horizon. Now, we have confirmation that both shows have been ordered to series by Fox, and Lucifer‘s showrunner Joe Henderson tweeted the following in response to the news:
So excited about ‘Lucifer.’ The pilot is fantastic, the world is rich, and I just need to do my best to not screw it up
We also have each show’s title graphics and our first images, which you will find below:
While Lucifer is not expected to tie into the Vertigo character’s origins in writer Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman comics, the series has retained the basic comic book premise: the devil has abandoned Hell and become bored with his existence. It’s nice to have the title’s graphics, but all we can tell from the second image is that Ellis looks sufficiently slick in the role.
We also have more info about Minority Report‘s premise, as Dash and detective Lara Vega (Good) “will search for Dash’s missing twin brother, Arthur, and elude others who will stop at nothing to exploit their precog abilities.” Arthur will be joined by another of the film’s characters, the twins’ foster sister and fellow precog Agatha, to be played by Laura Regan (Mad Men).
We have no hard news on when we can expect both shows to arrive on Fox, but expect a confirmation soon.
Lucifer and Minority Report are expected to air on Fox in 2015 or 2016.
