Mila Kunis, fresh off her critically-acclaimed role in the Academy Award-nominated Black Swan, has become one of Hollywood’s go-to young actresses. After rumors that Kunis might star in the live-action remake of Akira, new reports suggest that Kunis is joining the cast of Oz, The Great and Powerful.
According to Vulture, Kunis recently took a meeting with director Sam Raimi and star James Franco (who is slated to appear as the Wizard in Oz). Per the report, after the meeting “all agreed that Kunis would be perfect for the part of Theodorah, the younger sister of Evanorah who goes on to become the Wicked Witch of the West.”
With acclaimed writer David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole) working on the script and Academy Award nominee Franco secured for the lead role, Oz, The Great and Powerful is shaping up to be a must-watch project.
Interestingly, though Kunis allegedly dropped out of Akira to star in Oz, either way she would have ended up working with Franco who earlier this week was rumored to play Kaneda in the live-action adaptation.
Frankly, I still find it hard to believe that Jackie from That 70′s Show has suddenly become one of Hollywood’s hottest young stars. It seems like she was only a teenager a few years ago, and now she’s starring in Academy Award nominated movies and competing for roles in major upcoming blockbusters.
It just goes to show you how quickly things change in Hollywood, assuming of course that you’ve got talent. It’s nice to see Kunis finding mainstream success. I wouldn’t have guessed it five years ago, but there’s no doubt that the actress is firmly entrenched in the A-list now.
Assuming Kunis ends up accepting the part in Oz, The Great and Powerful, what do you think of her as a Wicked Witch? Better yet, what do you think of the entire premise of Sam Raimi’s movie. Are you interested in this film, or one of the other Wizard of Oz spin-offs coming out.

Word. She’s still fairly young too since she was only 14-15 when she starred on That ’70s Show. She has a long bright career in front of her.
Big mistake if she stars in that turkey. No one cares about Oz.
I care. A lot more than this POS Akira adapatation she turned down (thankfully).
Oz is quite popular as a concept, to this day. If YOU don’t like it, that’s your issue…and your loss.
I agree. No one with a taste for new original material cares about Oz.
Perhaps…if your name is Dexter or Noju…Otherwise, a lot of people care.
When I read the name Sam Rammi I am automaticly interested. And even though I didn’t think she was snubbed like some say when it came time for Oscar nominations I thought Mila Kunis was great in Black Swan. Her award is all the attention she is recieving now…
I wish Sam Raimi was making Akira instead!
Oz…. puts me to sleep just thinking about it. I’m with Dexter and Noju on this one.
