Mike Tyson in The Hangover 3 Mike Tyson Confirmed for The Hangover 3

I guess this is…news?

Former boxing superstar Mike Tyson has let it be known he will be entering into a third round of intoxicated debauchery. No, we’re not talking about the sports icon’s next headline-making scandal – we’re talking about Tyson once again running with his pals Stu (Ed Helms), Phil (Bradley Cooper) and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) in the next Hangover movie, which is tentatively titled The Hangover 3 (and could remain that way, if history is any indication).

Tyson himself dropped the news of his Hangover 3 appearance during a radio interview with Dan Patrick today – while simultaneously announcing that he has his own Vegas show in the works, called “Tyson: The Raw Truth”. Said one of Tyson’s “pals” about the upcoming Vegas show:

“It will be raw. Nothing will be held back. He’s not going to shrink from the problems he’s faced and the battles he’s fought professionally and personally. It will be unfiltered, and he’ll tell it like it is. The project has the full blessing of his wife Lakiha and their family.”

It’s disturbing to think about just how “raw” things might get when Tyson is onstage musing about his life and trials – especially with examples like this already out there:

….Back to The Hangover 3: Early plot details dropped by Galifianakis hinted at the third film diverging from the tried-and-true formula of the first two installments, and could feature a story as wild as having the Wolfpack members break Alan out of a mental institution. Bradley Cooper recently commented on the matter, echoing his co-star’s claims that this third film will indeed depart from the formula used in the first two.

How Tyson will fit into this is anybody’s guess – and given the mind of Hangover director Todd Phillips, it really could be anything that sets the former athlete on yet another collision course with his hard-partying pals.

MILD SPOILER ALERT:  If it’s anything like the second film, Tyson could even be wedged randomly and arbitrarily into a scene for all of thirty seconds. Wouldn’t that be fun.

The Hangover 3 should be going into production soon, in time for a 2013 release date.

  1. “It’s nothing like the first two.”

Because THIS time, Alan’s getting married. Totally different. Totally. And Mike Tyson shows up. And a chain-smoking tiger. And that asian guy. Oh, and they can’t remember anything from the previous night. But its Alan getting married!! Different!!!

    • Different *FORMULA* is the key word. Hopefully Todd Phillips gives us something fresh this time around. If Galifianakis is telling the truth about that mental institution plot, it sounds somewhat promising. We’ll see

      • The director said that Alan is asexual and he wont be getting married, I forgot where I read that though.

      • I wouldnt be surprised if they end up keeping the same formula anyway. Considering how much money the second film made when it was basically a carbon copy of the first, why change the formula? Why risk damaging the franchise? Although maybe they willchange it up for the third and end up releasing a few direct to dvd follow ups set in Band Camp. Who knows?

  2. Is it weird that I haven’t seen Hangover 2 but I would be willing to see part 3 if they are indeed changing the “formula”?
I didn’t care for The Hangover when I 1st watched it because by then the hype was so huge around it that you were thinking you’d be laughing non stop from start to finish. But I’ve seen it a couple times since and I’ve really come to enjoy it. I just stayed away from part 2 because I didn’t hear or read anything from those who had seen it that it was worth watching.
But the thought of these characters doing something different is intriguing so if that is the case I’ll check it out.

    • I loved part 2 just as much as part 1. I never understood the negative criticism.

      • B/c it’s exactly like the first film, just a different setting.

        • You forgot to add that its WAY less funny. Thats a big reason it was bashed so much.

  3. It’s a shame that another film is being made in this series. I didn’t laugh at either of the first two.

    • Shane if you didnt laugh thats your own problem, it was funny as hell

  4. The Formula this time is the other way around: We see the crazy action first, and then the normal moments that led to it !

  5. I have to laugh. Some of these guys, particulary “Zach” what’s-his-name, refused to work with Mel Gibson in the sequel, yet now, this is the third time they will be working with Mike Tyson, a convicted rapist and someone who bit the ear off another human being. Hollywood hypocrites.

    • I agree Jeff.

  6. Good news.

Mike Tyson’s cameo in the first Hangover movie was funny and made me love the song “In The Air Tonight” by Phil Collins.

The cameo and the music connected with the punch really well.

Tyson was wasted in Part 2 so hopefully this cameo has more fighting than awful singing.

  7. Does Mike Tyson know what a roast is? He’s mostly just swore at everyone.
