midnight meat train poster Help A Clive Barker Film Reach A Wider AudienceI first had a glimpse of Midnight Meat Train at the 2007 Comic-Con. Lionsgate screened a trailer for a small group of movie site owners, but then nothing more has really been heard of it since.I thought it might go straight to DVD, but it looks like it’s getting a theatrical release – but just barely.

The word is that the film, which is based on a short story by well known horror writer Clive Barker, will be getting a very small release.

Small, as in about 100 theaters.

Oh, and it’s opening on August 1st, same weekend as Mummy 3. Ouch.

However it seems that Mr. Barker is very happy with the film and would like to see a wider release before it heads to the DVD shelf:

“I am very excited about this possibility and I would passionately encourage everybody who cares about my work to use this chance to change the minds of the folks at Lionsgate. … I really think, this late in the day, that grassroots support for our movie could significantly improve our chances of reaching a much bigger audience theatrically. The picture is worth the effort, I believe.”

With a title like that, you’re probably wondering what the plot of the movie is. The story revolves around a New York City photographer who tries to hunt down a serial killer. Personally I think although the title is from Clive Barker’s story, they should have gone with a different one. The title makes it sound like a torture porn flick, and I don’t think that’s what it is at all.

If you’re a fan of Barker’s work and would like to support the film, head over to the IMDB board for this film for information on how you can help.

  1. I thought HellRaiser was an original horror film and it inspired the Borg.
However this film does look like a sadistic torture film.
Not that HellRaiser was a Ben Stiller Comedy but it was fresh and new back then.

This film seems like just another mindless murder film. And I hate those.

So sorry Clive, start working on your dvd comentary.
