Michael Sheen Fires An Aro Into New Moon

michael sheen Michael Sheen Fires An Aro Into New MoonTwilight fans rejoice! According to The Daily Mail Michael Sheen has been cast as Aro, the leader of the Volturi, an Italian vampire family in New Moon – the sequel to the smash hit movie. According to paper, the director of the film Chris Weitz “aggressively pursued” Sheen for the role saying:

“Michael’s role is so important because he’s the head of all vampires. Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat.”

In case you’ve been living in a cave and haven’t heard, the Twilight movies are based on a series of novels by Stephen King’s favorite author Stephanie Meyer – and this follow up will reunite original stars Robert Pattinson and and Kristen Stewart. Rumor has it that Pattinson is some sort of cross generational pin-up. I thought that I was the only one – welcome to the club Robert!

Sheen has made his name in recent years playing iconic British people such as former Prime Minister Tony Blair, football manager Brian Clough, the Carry On film’s Kenneth Williams and Sir David Frost in Frost/Nixon.

I suppose playing a politician is sort of like playing a vampire. Think about it.

Having not read the books means that I can’t say if Sheen is good casting, but I can only assume that he’s only interested in it because he could chew a lot of scenery. I also think that vampire Volturi is a meaty role for Sheen after playing “living” characters. I mean now he’s playing the undead. At the very least he’ll have something to sink his teeth into.

That and he’s getting £5 million. That’s sterling folks – not dollars.

All will be revealed when New Moon, the next installment of the Edward and Bella saga opens in November.

  1. Oh god. I love Michael Sheen. I’ve read the books and I think he will be awesome for the role. He’ll just need the right makeup to make him look older and a little frail because Aro is over 3000 years old.

    Sheen a hunkisle.

  2. You’re missing the fact that this is the guy that played the werewolf leader in the Underworld movies. It’s kind of hilarious that he’s now switching sides and playing a vampire.

He seems to be a talented actor and a great choice. The casting in these Twilight movies is shaping up nicely. Let’s just hope they do a better job on the special effects and plot this time.

  3. i Loved him as Lucien in the underworld trilogy.
should be cool to see him on the Vamps Side .

  4. He is great in the underworld movies, though for some reason, the third one was not released in cinema’s in my country (netherlands), but they did release in just about every other european country (you #@*^%!#$ :@ !).

  5. im so excited to see this…
cant wait till november this year…

  6. finally a good actor has join twilight!

  7. Dude, this guy is awesome in Underworld, dare I say that the next twilight movie might rock?

  8. yeah i like him in Underworld but I never saw Twilight. I didn’t plan on seeing New Moon but maybe I’ll give them a shot.

  9. He’s quite the chameleon, Sheen is.Having recently seen Frost/Nixon i was amazed to later learn this is the same guy from the Underworld movies, even if he hadnt played werewolf guy with a beard i doubt i would have recognized him as Frost.

  10. I pictured Aro much like him when I was reading the books, so I think he will be a great fit.

  11. just to clarify things stephen king is not a fan of stephanie meyers he publicly said so. so get your facts straight

  12. Mingy,
    The King reference was sarcasm.

    Niall

  13. he will do a good job as aron wow wow wow wow wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
twilight was cool and new moon will rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. OMG!! This is the second actor from Underworld they are using. The difference is Sheen plays a werewolf in Underworld. I guess he will have a understanding of the character after being around the idea of it. I’m gettin so excited….November isn’t going to come quick enough.

  15. I hope the dialogue is as delightfully humourous as the first.

I could do with a good laugh.

  16. Sheen will definitely satisfy book and movie goers alike. Dakota Fanning couldn’t be more perfect to play the role of Jane. Its a relief to hear they are keeping Taylor Lautner for Jacob Black also. This next movie should be excellent as long as(and may I STRESS this) as long as they don’t downplay how close Jacob and Bella get in this movie just to keep Robert Pattinson(Edward) in it more. I know that there are just as many swooning fans for the Quillette tribes wolf pack as there are for Edward, so please don’t screw it up!

  17. That’s wrong. Stephen King hates Stephanie Meyer’s twilight saga.
