Michel Gondry To Direct The Green Hornet?

4 years ago by Sabrina Cognata

gondry green hornet Michel Gondry To Direct The Green Hornet?Until recently, The Green Hornet was starring Seth Rogen and Stephen Chow, but without a director. That all changed when Columbia Pictures’ presidents Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach announced that they were in negotiations with Michael Gondry to direct the film.

Seth Rogen also penned the scrip with Superbad screenwriter Evan Goldberg.  The two are also executive producing the film along with Michael Grillo.  The film will be produced by Neal H. Moritz and his Original Film production company.

Moritz told IESB.net:

“We’re huge fans of Michel Gondry. ’Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ and all his films are as daring as they are extraordinary, fueled by creative ideas that spring from his unique worldview. Our first rule, always, is to make the movie that we want to see, and that couldn’t be truer than with Michel bringing his stylish and original touch to the helm.”

Regarding the announcement, Tolmach added that Gondry is clearly a perfect choice for the director’s chair, as he brings a sense of originality to all of his work, which is something very important to Green, Goldberg and Moritz regarding The Green Hornet.

Of his impending role as director of Three Green Hornet Gondry said:

“I’m very excited about The Green Hornet and all that I hope to bring to it. This story has always been close to me and now Seth & Evan have written a script that is both funny and real – the best of both worlds. I cannot wait to further collaborate with them on it.”

With a comment like that I am actually pretty excited to see what ends up happening with the film. I love Gondry’s work and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is probably one of my favorite films, but I would never have picked him to head this project in a million lifetimes.

Although the thought of Gondry’s eccentric but unique style might bring something exciting and unexpected to the film, it may also end up not being a good match for the story.

What do you think of on Gondry directing The Green Hornet?

I still regret the fact that we are not going to get Kevin Smiths Green Hornet.
The only reason the ball got rolling on this project was because of Smiths original involvement .
Since he walked away it just feels like The Keystone cops are putting it together.
    that having been said ,
    I wish Gondry Luck.
He is going to need it.

Gondry has a great visual style, even in Be Kind, Rewind the tones he used were great were great! I am sure he can make a pleasant Hornet film, however, I am still skeptical that this will come out.

The Lone Ranger and The Green Hornet BOTH must be spinning in their graves at the thought of this movie being a comedy; ala 1960′s BATMAN. I hope this atrocity dies on the vine. If these idiots want a comedy, then let them create their own characters. Just don’t butcher a legendary hero to get a few laughs and a few bucks!!!

    @Aaron

Thanks for catching those typos, I missed them while editing the article. Sometimes I miss wrong spellings of people’s names.

I love Gondry. His part of Tokyo! is surreal, but humane(and funny as hell). Its like Kafka on film(but, again, funnier).

The Tokyo! DVD drops June 30th (i think). You can pre-order and catch the trailer on the website http://tokyothemovie.com/
