‘Men In Black 3′ Adds Alec Baldwin, Gemma Arterton & Sharlto Copley

The third installment in the Men In Black series may seem a tad unnecessary in the scheme of things but the fact that so many great famous faces are joining the cast certainly makes it more intriguing than it might have otherwise been.

The last cast member to join Men In Black III was Brit actress Emma Thompson and today we learn from Pajiba that she will be joined by three more famous faces: Alec Baldwin, Gemma Arterton and Sharlto Copley, who are all reportedly in negotiations for the film.

Baldwin will play the MIB boss back in 1969; Arterton (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) will play a secretary in ’69; and finally Copley (District 9) will play, “a fast-talking Yoda-type alien.” Hopefully that clever nod to Copley’s role in District 9 is indicative of the type of humor that will be found throughout Men In Black III.

Pajiba also notes that former popstar Nicole Scherzinger has been offered a cameo role as the girlfriend of Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), who will play the film’s main villain. Fans of the franchise will surely be glad that both Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are returning for the second sequel as Agent Jay and Agent Kay, respectively.

Interestingly enough,  Josh Brolin is also part of the cast, playing a young Agent Kay when Jermaine’s villainous “Yaz” travels back in time to try and kill Kay as part of a plot to destroy Earth. It’s not yet clear how that all fits together but I’m sure it will serve as a platform for all the ridiculous extraterrestrial shenanigans that the series is known for.

Questions over the necessity of this “threequel” aside, the film actually has a lot of things going for it: Along with the aforementioned impressive cast, it also has returning director Barry Sonnenfeld, David Koepp (Spider-Man) writing the script and the great makeup artist Rick Baker lending his talents to the series once more.

The first two Men In Black films aren’t exactly the best movies around (the second one kind of dropped the ball) but we can always keep our fingers crossed that the third one ends up being the best of the bunch.

Men In Black III is set to start shooting this November and is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 25th, 2012.

  1. Wow, this film just got a hell of a lot more interesting!

    • Yeap. But the idea of them going back in time…IDK. Still im hoping they focus more on the story than in the 3D effects.

      • If you ask me, the time travel plot devise is being used as a cop-out in this film, and will result in TLJ getting reduced to a mere cameo. If the writers can’t come up with something better, then they’ll use time travel. It’s beginning to get really annoying in film. I can tell you the only thing that gets me excited about this film is that Nicole Scherzinger will probably cameo, and that’s only b/c I’m a fan of the Pussycat Dolls. However, that’s nowhere near enough for me to spend my money on this film.

  2. Awesome news!

  3. NOW I am interested. That´s a great cast. And I would go to watch anything with Copley in it.

  4. I want a new MIB song from Will Smith!!! “Don’t cheer us deer us, never get near us were fearless”
