‘Men in Black 3′ Set Photos Feature 1960s Vehicles & Alien Hardware

Published 3 years ago by , Updated September 18th, 2012 at 8:22 am,

Men in Black III is one of the more troubled blockbuster productions of the past year – probably even more so than X-Men: First Class – having been plagued by rewrites, delays, creative differences, trailer parking fiascos, and actors dropping out (Alec Baldwin fans were sorely disappointed).

Still, it’s hard to argue with the potential of the project, thanks in part to an excellent cast and a fairly interesting – if Austin Powers-esque – concept. Today, we have set photos from the recent New York shoot of MIB3, depicting alien hardware and 1960s vehicles.

Barry Sonnenfeld and company have been shooting down in the New York financial district for weeks now, with extras wearing 1960s mod-style outfits and what have you, but this is the first time we’ve seen any legitimate alien hardware. It’s nice to see the production values are still in the right place, but it’s hardly surprising for series that has made a billion box office dollars.

For those who don’t recall the plot of MIB3:

The story revolves around Agent J (Will Smith) traveling back to 1969 to stop an alien named Boris the Biker – played by Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) – from killing Agent K before he can become…well, Tommy Lee Jones.

It’s a story that could pay off both creatively and humorously, if it doesn’t get bogged down in time travel and/or Forrest Gump gimmicks, a la the aforementioned Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Hopefully, there weren’t too many fingers in the pie (or hands in the pot) for the film’s own good. With an ever-expanding budget of $215 million, it’s probably going to need the benefit of ‘quality’ to make its money back.

What do you guys think? Production problems aside, are you looking forward to the third and potentially final Men in Black film? Or are those production problems  too worrisome for you to look beyond – especially after the underwhelming Men in Black II? Let us know in the comments.

Men in Black III – starring Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, Jemaine Clement, Bill Hader, Emma Thompson, Rip Torn, Alice Eve, and a bunch of other people – hits theaters May 25th, 2012.

  1. Anyone else see the Mr. Garrison vehicle from South Park? http://images.hollywood.com/site/SouthParkCircle.jpg

    • Egads! That too!

  2. The circular vehicle reminds me of General Grievous vehicle in revenge of the sith.

  3. I’m a bit dubious of this, just based on the issues they’ve had in production.
Regardless, I have my fingers crossed and I’m hoping they can work it out.

  4. I kind of feel like Tommy Lee Jones being only in the bookends of the film will kind of ruin it. What I loved about MIB is the chemistry between Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones… I’m not sure how good it will turn out…

  5. Glad that Will and Tommy Lee are back in black.

  6. I am not sure about this one yet. I will pass further judgement after a trailer :)

  7. Alec Baldwin has fans?

    • lol apparently he does :o

  8. Not really a fan of MIB. I just can’t get past the fact that at this ‘ultra-secretive’, powerful and massively important ‘Space Agency’ the only 2 good agents they have are Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. Everyone else at the Agency is a total tool and completely useless. That’s such a glaring plot hole. And, I really wish they would add a little gravitas to the proceedings. It’s far too air-headed and clueless for it’s own good.

  9. Saw the cars out there on Saturday. I was wondering what was going on…and now i know. thanks :)

  10. Concept design is always top-notch in the M.I.B franchise, so far I’ve been very entertained. -Animated series was sick too. I will complete the trilogy in theaters.
As long as the style stays consistent and sick creatures explode It’s solid. (say that 10x’s fast)

  11. I’m a big fan of man in black. 2nd part wasn’t as good as the 1st but I hope mib 3 will be best

  12. i can’t wait for it ,been to long since the second film came out:(
just like Ghostbusters lll just to long because of money to many eqos
and the studio of course, its good their going back in time get a younger
actor to play Tommy’s character time for Tommy to quit acting and start
receiving all the benefits your suppose to get from a long career i especially like Will in Independence Day and Tommy Lee Jones in The Fugitive thought that was Tommy’s better films with Harrison Ford.just had a thought put your enormous egos aside and do Ghostbusters meet Men in Black that would be funny .Still waiting on the sequel to Star Trek
2009 and the Dark Knight Rises and of course The Avengers. The only reason I want to see Man of Steel is the beautiful actress Amy Adams as Lois Lane:)rkallao@aol.com

  13. Want to see Man of Steel
    just remember stars do not
    usually make movie, script does.
I remember another movie I saw
once that had stars caliber but
    it bombed nonetheless.to many
stars can spoil the broth so to
    speak.But Costner,Adams ,Crowe,etc
sounds like the Man of Steel just
might be that but still I think
    no one could replace Mr.Christopher
Reeves as Superman no one sorry Tom
Welling and I do mean no one…….

  14. Man of Steel,
    The Avengers.
    Dark Knight Rises.
    might be the end of
    the world as far as
    the Mayan calender
goes its the end of the
world but as far as movies
for super heros goes 212 is
gonna be one heck of a year******

  15. Yeah the second film wasn’t so good but still i want to see the third and probably other films

  16. I think the MIB3 designers got their inspiration from this real life example http://youtu.be/g_Q8rp0nnrE
